Wow blast from the past...

You'd actually be best off making a ut mod for the game, the original was stupid easy to hack, unless the community fixed that.

I wrote a cd crack for it, and fly hacked rank all the time. Mostly played legit, but tailored a couple save files, and would use the rank hack to mess with other cheaters.

Actually playing to gain tech and rank felt pointless after I could fabricate it all in a hex editor. Game was hella fun though.

I am using the unity engine sine it was recommend as the engine to use for a remake of the game by one of the oringinal devs on the Netstorm dev team.

I am hoping to do away with many of the cheats that were in the old version once we get to the coding of the new version

I was actually thinking that given your experience working with USkaarj, it would have made sense to use Unreal (UDK). I'm sure Unity is just as capable, mind.

Also, I wouldn't bother with web-based Unity.

actuly we are still waying engines but the main one's we are thinking about are the Unity engine and the NeoAxis engine. I am useing the NeoAxis engine for another project I am working on and it supports being able to deploy as a stand alone exe or compile for running in a browser.

The main thing I am focusing on is getting all the art and content finished before starting in on any coding. all the other NS fan projects failed over the years becouse they were never able to get any models done but a few did come up with basic elements that were playable.. one of them was Stormwars a open source NS clone type RTS.

right now 90% of meshes are done just have to do a few more building models and the priest meshes for the factions. once that is done its just the interface art that will need done and we can start coding.

Small update last few days been working on modeling the Thunder workshop and trying to get the parts blocked out. still have to rescale some of the parts and move the towers and front so they meet up with the front part better like in the orignal artwork.

This morning I had a little time to do a little more work on the wind temple mesh that I am working on for wind player but was starting to get stressed out on working on it, so I took a break and quickly did the Outpost building mesh!

Well my friend that is helping me skin my meshes finally got my Whirligig base and the whirligig bomber m esh skinned there is just a little tweaking to to on the side part of the whirligig bomber side skin but once that is done the mesh will be adding to the engine.

Small update on my project.

First off I have improved the Altar giving it more rounded edges!

As you can see the base is now more rounded and smooth.

Also we now have the changes made to the sun cannon base so it is now more white like it was in the original game. I have taken some screen-shots of the updated mesh plus the Altar mesh inside the engine.

There are a few errors on the mesh faces that are being corrected by skinner but this is what the skinned mesh looks like so far of the newly skinned Wind Balloon! hope you guys like the update :) if you like how things are looking be sure to comments on what you think :)

I'm not really able to comment on all your updates since I've only played the original game for some hours, but I definitely enjoy checking out all the work you and your friend are doing. Keep on doing what you're doing!

I am very pleased to announce that the Bulf resource collector mesh skinning is just about done and today we have the first promo pic of the newly skinned Bulf Mesh.

Our skinner worked closely from the original game art to get it as close the original look as he could, there are a few minor tweaks he is making to the skin but for now the mesh is finished enough for all NS fans to see the Bulf in all his majesty!

Our coders are currently busy working on implementing the RTS camera in unity and are making very good progress on the camera coding, once the camera is finished being implemented they will start in on the build menu so we can start placing the buildings in-game and not just from inside the editor.
