Infiltration 2.75 vs 2.85 --- Why 2.75 was better

No comparison.... 2.75 comes out on top

Why ?

- 2.75 has better, classic weapon system. in 2.85 you start out with 4 weapons and some ammo, fewer weapons and they dont even look as good as the old one.
- 2.85 plays slower... why does infiltration have to be SLOW? UT is normally like twice the speed
- 2.85 will damage the player from very small drops, which i found extremely annoying.
- 2.75 used the classic UT interface. I dont like the new one, not as precise.
- 2.85 has no radar :(
- 2.85 doesnt have an option to set unlimited lives like 2.75
- 2.85's new interface is more confusing than the built-in one 2.75 has.

Perhaps those things should be brought back / modified.

Interesting opinion, but since development will no longer occur for previous versions of INF, Id encourage you to come aboard and move into the future.

well not to start a debate but here's what I've got to say to your post TheWulf:

- 2.75 has better, classic weapon system. in 2.85 you start out with 4 weapons and some ammo, fewer weapons and they dont even look as good as the old one.

Create a loadout with your personal weapon selections. And honestly I think the graphics in UT far surpass Unreal's capabilities..perhaps a hardware upgrade is in order for better video?

- 2.85 plays slower... why does infiltration have to be SLOW? UT is normally like twice the speed

It's a realism mod. Who do you know that can run that fast in real life AND carry a few hundred pounds of ammo and weapons?

- 2.85 will damage the player from very small drops, which i found extremely annoying.

Again the realism comes into play, if you jump from a second story floor down to the ground, you're going to be a bit winded/dazed I'm sure. But I agree, I've gone down stairs and felt some damage.

- 2.75 used the classic UT interface. I dont like the new one, not as precise.

I honestly didn't like the old 2.75 interface, with this one at least you can get more info on one screen instead of switching between tabs. If it's not as precise again maybe it's a video thing? At low resolutions the video is quite distorted and grainy, in fact the best resolution would be 1024 x 768. But then again not all of us can run at that..

- 2.85 has no radar
Do you have radar in real life? Sure there is survelance (sp?) equipment and such, but how fair is it to know that your enemy is going to come through that door so all you do is shoot a few buckshots from the 12-gauge through it?

- 2.85 doesnt have an option to set unlimited lives like 2.75

I can see where in larger maps with small amounts of people this would be an issue, but it gives you time to think about your "mistakes" and how you got killed. I learn from it and seldom do the same thing twice.

- 2.85's new interface is more confusing than the built-in one 2.75 has.

Again see my response to your other post about the interface..

But you're entitled to your opinions, and you're entitled to air them here. If however you're expereiencing issues, as you stated with the interface, perhaps it's a simple video setting, try upping your resolution to 800x600 or 1024x769 if you havn't already. What kind of system are you running the game on as well? Older systems of course will encounter problems with graphics and speed/lagginess as they may not be able to handle the game. If you're experiencing other issues post in the Troubleshooting forum, myself as well as the others there can offer suggestions or fixes.

I think

2.85 is just more realistic than 2.75. In real life you can't set number of lives. It's kill or be killed!

2.75

It's definitely fun to play regular UT with Infiltration weapons. I mean, if you're going to play regular UT (fast paced, power-ups, etc.) wouldn't you rather have the Infiltration weapons? So I understand liking 2.75. I liked it a lot too... :)

But I like 2.85 for the same reasons you don't like it:
* I like being able to choose a loadout.
* I like slower game play.. it makes people think more about what they are doing in the game.
* I like falling damage... it's just more realistic and makes the maps more challenging.
* I love the new interface, very cool.
* Man, did I hate radar.. I immediately turned it off in 2.75.
* I like to play with one life. If I die once and respawn, then I didn't "win".
* New Interface = Good

Just my humble opinion.
