Doc, just to enlighten you on your disbelief that my family's house was robbed 3-4 times, I can tell you it's true. When you're an American living abroad, they will pick you out and generally rob you because American's usually have better things to steal than the average Italian. Besides, stealing from an Italian could be dangerous anyways, if they "know people that know people". I don't care what you call me, just don't call me a liar.

Yes, it's a good thing.

The idea that "I need a gun to defend myself from everyone else who has a gun" is not only illogical but will also create a recursive situation, like the one in the US.
The idea that "I don't need a gun, because noone will attack me" is more convenient.
Instead of arming, shouldn't one try to change the attitude of the society? It's better for a civilisation in the long run if people have respect for eachother instead of hate.

No, they won't.
If they're in some kind of gang or maffia, maybe, but Achmad who lives in the bad side of my town will just have to do his gansta-wannabe stuff without the gun, because, unless he has some connections, he won't get his hands on a weapon.

Organized criminals might have guns, but still, unless they're psychotic, they don't want to kill the agerage Joe, they just want his dough.
Also, if guns are outlawed, you're sure gonna notice a guy carrying one.

Up until 1998 Canadian firearm laws were very similar to US firearm laws, yet they have never had same level of firearm violence. Why? Culture.

Outlawing guns and/or imposing all the various "gun control" scenarios suggested will only affect law-biding citizens; they will have zero effect on criminals.

The universe isn't just black and white, it's not binary.
People have a varying degree of criminality, that is, someone wouldn't hurt a fly, whereas someone else thinks it might be OK to shoplift, and another one thinks it's just as OK to commit insurance-fraud, while yet another think it's acceptable to kill.
If you could kill anybody, with no punishment or no questions asked, would you?
If you would, when you have the ability to kill, then giving you a gun is not a very good idea, wether you're a law-abiding citizen or a psycho.
If noone is allowed to carry a gun, except maybe in certain circumstances, like soldiers or police, the it's gonna be hard as hell to get one, even for low-level criminals.
A real gangster might get a gun through illegal sources, but a real gangster seldom rips a convenience store like a petty robber.
Your argument is the logical equivalent of "Oh, there's a hole in the boat! Well, if the water gets in anyway, we might as well drill some more holes!"

shoplifting = crime
fraud = crime
kill = crime (or not. depends on circumstances)

I doubt the black market realy cares for bans. Besides, beeing cop or soldier and using your weapon for a crime are not mutually exclusive. Why should they have them?

Somehow ppl think that owning a gun protects them from criminals. Actually it increases their chances of getting killed.

Someone who already has his gun drawn on entry and thus easily overpowers anyone who might have a gun beneath his coat?

If someone is actually out to harm you he won't give you the chance to get your weapon.
