TeamXbox has a write-up on Epic's upcoming Xbox360 thriller, Gears of War, including some hands-on impressions from the 2005 Tokyo Game Show:
The controls, while nowhere near final, feel very good at this early stage. The left stick controls movement and the right stick controls look, much like in any other third-person title. There is a crouch movement mapped to pressing in on the left stick, but Epic is still not sure how much that will be utilized or if the functionality will change. Being that Gears of War is a “stop and pop” shooter, the use of cover is essential. Simply pushing the left stick towards a wall or other forms of cover will automatically butt Marcus up against the object, allowing you to worry about the enemies and not fumbling through a specific button action. At that point, Marcus will be somewhat stuck to the object, allowing you to move easily from left to right along the cover, peek out from corners, etc. From there you can use the left trigger to bring up a targeting reticle and the right trigger to fire. When firing from cover with the targeting reticle, Marcus will briefly stand up to get a quality shot. While in cover mode, Marcus can also blind fire by simply pulling the right trigger, but there is no targeting reticle which makes it more of a last-ditch tactic.
