any way to kick a bot out of a vehicle to use it yourself?
getting them into the truck by using the horn is no prob, but how to get them out of ie. the tank (cause they normally do not realyl know how and where to drive with the tank). And how to get them into the tank to mount the second turret?

Tried playing online... oh boy... I had pings below the hundred but the servers were constantly 'adjusting' my location, the steering of vehicles was laggy as hell and general key and button input too. Firing your weapon not alwys fired shots at all and if the weapon fired then almost a sec later. The anti-vehicle rocket always spawned behind me due to this lag while running forward. Even getting into vehicles was sometimes a 'skill'... hit the activate/use key, wait, oh not working, hit again, ahhh inside, ehh outside again.. aso. Does it lag for everyone here? (I'm on ADSL and shouldn't have that much of a problem). The dynamic netspeed option maybe?
Well, it sucked due to this of course...

After some demo testing , i must say in my opinion that only the Onslaught mode has an interest in ut2k4.

All was beginning in the best possible way : the game was very smooth in 800x600 with my now old system (geforce 2) , but quickly after this good new , things gone bad.

Assault was boring (i was waiting for this one , since i liked the original UT Assault mode) , very boring , DM , TDM , CTF and the pathetic Bombing Run are even worse. All of this the fault of the gameplay : the game has a very slow rythm , the physics are absolutely not nervous and it seems you can phone call your opponent as it is impossible to surprise him (is it an arcade shooter or not, where is the adrenaline rush felt by the player ? i just have fallen asleep with this game).
In fact , it is the same gameplay of UT2k3 , i was hoping a lot more .

After ut2k4 demo , i launched the first UT and i had ... fun.
Fun with the old engine gameplay that is really the one you look for , with an arcade shooter.
I dont know what is Epic goal with the gameplay in ut2k3/2k4 but honestly everything feel slow , it is like moving under water (ah yes, i remember the eye candy=gameplay from one of the dev ... ) .

The ut2k4 weapons have ammunitions ? i had the impression to shoot "imaginary" bullets or missiles , looking at the big number of direct hits needed to take down someone .

Onslaught, on another note is an excellent mode and can make me forget all those awfull gameplay choice from Epic (certainly because of the vehicles that felt more nervous) . The bots are incredible at Onslaught, they can play , achieve objectives , repair things without any need of a human player.
I had lots of fun in the Onslaught map , being shot, being crushed by enemy vehicles, being exploded by some missiles.
But unfortunately, as there will be very few Onslaught maps , i will not buy this game and will think about buying the futur Tribes (using the UT engine too) for the same kind of fun but with more features.

why, oh why this awfull stupid slow gameplay ?

I will consider buying this thing only when it will be very cheap , and when INF 3.0 will be out on it , if they code INF on it of course.

Most in here seem to like the game simply because of the possibilities. So am I to assume you think that UT2004 itself is average at best? For $40, I expect a few things that UT2004 doesn't deliver. I expect a full new game. I also expect the focus of the developers to be in the game, not the engine. A great engine is nice, especially if they can sell it. But if this is indeed a "tech demo", I sure as hell don't expect to pay $40 for it. If they make all their money on the engine, why not make the game a free DL? Or at least a reasonable price of $20. And since anybody playing this is most likely a UT2003 fan, not that many will be buying this crap to finally get their UT fix. It should have been an expansion in the first place. A $20 expansion. I smell greed and stupidity.
I'm also sick of how weak UT has become. I get the feeling the game is for little whiny kids like CK who die easily in every other game. For example, it's easier to run a bastard over in the vehicles, then to try and shoot them. Which brings me to the single good thing in UT2004. Running people over, haha.

Beppo, the lag you're describing would just be the server catching up, no? Sure your ping could be fine, but the server's performance might be struggling? I had a similar thing happening when things got a bit hectic in a 24 player game, but nothing too bad. It kind of helps though that Australia's largest ISP is running 12 good quality servers for the demo :)

Played it a bit;
DM, CTF and Assault is worthless due to the rampant bunny-hopping(whoever "invented" double jump should be hunted down, skinned alive and eaten). Onslaught is a bit amusing with the vehicles and all, but it gets tedious and boring after a few minutes. Anyone saying this game is good now, WILL get bored within a week of purchase. Wouldn't even recommend anyone to just download it. Oh, and ALL the weapons are boring and ineffective. Excluding the redeemer, which is just boring.

Any redeeming qualities? The uninstaller is pretty quick.

I dont know if this is pointed to me , but no i dont think UT2k4 is an average game , for me it is a bad game as it has destroyed what made UT 1 fun , i consider this game not worthing my money at full price.
Only the appearance of INF 3.0 on this engine can lead me to buy this game, but certainly not at full price.

As even Onslaught seem to be a very "light" version of Tribes (i played Tribes 1 and 2) , and i will certainly prefer to buy the real thing (Tribes Vengeance) instead of a "light" version of it with few map and few features called ut2k4 Onslaught.

If ut2k4 was only Onslaught + 40/50 Onslaught maps + more features , my opinion would have changed.

If you were not pointing what i quoted to me , ignore this post :)

I've had that on a few servers, but I generally just bail on them and find a different one. I don't usually have trouble finding a server that doesn't do that. My major annoyance is with all the servers that continually list empty spots, but when I try and connect, they keep claiming to be full. Just a bit ago, I had to go through 20 server join attempts before I finally got on one. A bit annoying, really.

i made a little listen server to test it with some bots, next thing i knew i was hosting a 16 player game on my PC! Not only did the server run fine, but i experienced almost no slowdown (one exception being where nearly every vehicle on the map was in one area fighting). It was a lot of fun.

I'm guessing this is due to a ton of server admins not actually paying attention to what thier boxes can run. Happens in almost all game releases.
And, oddly enough a good number of the servers running at the moment seem to be listen servers... all the newbies seem to think they can host for 32 players at a time.

yepp but if the ten servers that have a ping around or below 100 do this, then I really don't want to check out the 200+ and 300+ ones, really. :)
Well maybe I should try a bit longer to find a server that doesn't adjust locations all the time.

I know there is a "GET OUT" voice command for the bots. Just have a look at the .xml files in the Speech subfolder. It contains all the command you can give bots with a microphone.
But I couldn't get it to work. Anybody else tried?

My Ten Step Experience to the UT2K4 Demo

1. Download - One hour wait on FilePlanet
2. Install - Nice variety of player models. Nice voice comm options.
3. Play Assault Offline - Great voice intro. Pretty straighforward gameplay.
4. Play Onslaught Offline - Vehicles are fun, but noticed weapons are useless.
5. Play Onslaught Online - Realise ping is too high for anything but Flak Cannon.
6. Repeatedly squish, run over, cut people in half in Manta. - Killed the other team, then went to their main base and squished them as they spawned. Evil.
7. Play Bombing Run Offline - Same as UT2K3.
8. Play Onslaught Offline - Hop in Tank, drive to hill, fire into enemy base. Monster Kill.
9. Type "Loaded" to test all weapons - Ion Painter reminds me of Command & Conquer. But weaker. Redeemer, same old.
10. Uninstall - About 2 hours of entertainment for "free".

Verdict: An improved UT2K3. Will appeal to some who enjoy non-stop jumping action. Non-adrenaline junkies need not apply. I will not be purchasing UT2K4 until it is modded. If/when.

If you drive a vehicle with multiple positions (Hellbender, Tank) change to a gun position (position 2 or 3), ask a bot to cover you.
As bots are totally unable to drive, change back to position 1 after they get in.

Seating positions are controlled by using the weapon select keys.

Care to back that request up with a reason or two, dippy?

My Reasons:

It is is my personal belief that your main aim in many of your posts is to wind people up, get a fight going. And generally cause some sort of disruption. You are quick to insult people and even quicker to take offense at something which really isn't that important. You also seem to have an unnatural motherly instict toward a certain computer game of which a demo was released earlier this week.

I dont like you. I seem to recall youve been banned before. I also seem to recall the ban was lifted on the condition that you calm down. please forgive me if i am wrong on this fact. All I see from you is disruptive and unhelpful. you will probably argue that a few of the usual suspects have been disruptive and unhelpful for years. I think that is incorrect. The 'usual suspects' certainly have a reputation for not always being the most polite of people, but those people are also intelligent contributers to the community. You dont seem to be anything more than a troll.

You've been asked to calm down by the mods. Even in this thread. I see no evidence of you having done this. I'd say that you are heading for a banning sometime in the near future. I'd also predict that when this does come you'll fume for a few days. Maybe go tell some friends about the mean men on the internet. Then email an admin saying you are very sorry. You'll never do it again. And could you please have your account back. They will give you your account back. As they usually do. At this point you will begin posting again; happy because somebody noticed your existence, and feeling like you are so great because you talked your way out of a ban on the internet. Oh how clever you are.

Of course. Like I said before. This is merely my opinion. Though I don't know that many people would regard you as a contributer to the community. At least. Not a contributer of anything good.

As for UT2k4. Well its a nice engine. But far too expensive as a game. I like mods. But dislike how epic seem to think that they can get away with releasing a game just for people to build mods on, especially game that is, quite franky, crap.

So they want to make money while doing as little as possible ... to expect anything else from a company that needs to make a profit and survive is to delude yourself.
... true innovation is dead in any company that's got 1 succesful game.
Even mod-teams have been infected by this virus.

// ---
as for UT'04 ... I think it's nice. It's definitely not an essential buy, but it definitely ranks quite a bit higher than HL2 and D3 which aren't going to be anything other than full-price engine-demos as well.

Best/original fps this year is probably going to be Stalker ... if they manage to deliver what they seem to be suggesting.

ive never had any hope for doom3. i would hope that HL2 is a good standalone game.

as for not expecting any more of a company that is trying to make money. well im not condemning their business practice. but regardless of how sound that is th game still isnt that great.
