Um, The Hash Weasel decided he doesnt want to play so he gave me a win by default /~unreal/ubb/html/frown.gif. I guess this means I get to be smacked by some really tough players then.
Someone tell me what to do now

Skum, if Hash doesn't want to play then you get the automatic bye. Just sit tight and wait for the next round draw, OK?

um, Rock? You were only supposed to play one round against your opponent and that round was the decider. If Morgan won the first then that means Morgan goes through. Rules were quite clear on this.

I will discuss this only once. Just once.
First off Morgan did not ask to be in the tourney. His name was put on the list without
being asked. Secondly being that he is from Europe and I am from the USA our pings are so
wildly different it would not be fair if he or I only played on a server that favored each other. 3rd So we agreed on making it 2 out of 3. Which only makes common sense. Because it does take time to adapt to another's playing style. And if you don't like the fact that we played 2 out of 3. Guess what? Tough cookies. Another thing our time differencial was very desparate. He stayed up till like 2 am his time to play against me. It just proves that setting up these tourney's requires a lot of thought.

I am afraid i am going to have to side with the rock on this one. If both sides agree, i think the rules should be flexible. In anycase, this is for fun!!! to adhere so strictly to rules would be kind of silly in my opinion

And I will reply to this only once.

1) What relevance does this have? He didn't have to play tou he could have told me or Serp and one of the (many) substitutes could have taken his place.

2) Since, as you point out, this HASN'T been the best organised effort then as far as ping goes it's luck of the draw. My first match will be against someone in California and I don't expect it to be very fair for one of us.

3) Taking time to adapt to each others playing style? Why not make it best of 20 then? And if I don't like the way you did it, guess what? If I felt like being a sh*t about it I could just record it as Morgan winning.

And as far as "if both sides agree the rules should be flexible" (WAnk) what a load of crap. Whether this is for fun or not there have to be some rules and they should be stuck to.

In any road, since I'm sure Serp will see this I'll have a word and see what the consensus is. For the record I think it'll go in Rock's favour (since we do want this to be fun after all) but consider it a point made.

No one here is getting a tangible prize. And yes their should be rules but damn your not the one who came up with the idea were you? And your not paying for this are you? We are not paying for this are we? So why the big deal? oh and the reason I replied is because I didn't know you were assisting Serpico. But
seriously next time something is planned make
sure to ask the opinions of people you want to be involved. There are many here who have played in Quake tournies and know the rules. And those rules can work just as good with UT.

FYI: There was a post a while back from Serp that said he wanted this to be a "knockout" tournament, not 2/3. I would like to say, though, that I think best 2/3 would be a better idea. Anyway, if Rock and Morgan have agreed on the results of their contest, can we just leave it at that and agree that the rules need to be clarified better for the future? I think this tourney was a great idea and I would hate for things to get ugly this early on. That wouldn't look good for future tourneys.

I agree that we need to have rules and they should be adhered to. Lets just learn from our mistakes and move on. /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

Note for Duke:

I'm supposed to be setting up a web page with latest results on etc. and when I do I'm thinking it might be a good idea to post links to any demos people may record (or maybe even the demos, should Y5 have the web space and people be prepared to send them) so watch this space.

Hopefully I'll have the page ready soon, but it's gonna look pretty bog-standard unless I can dig out some semi-decent graphics.
