Should Inf be about *total* realism

Here's my two cents, for what its worth - It is unrealistic to know who killed who, and who you killed. This doesn't happen in real life. Team kills, maybe. But its not as fun cutting someone down and then thinking "Yay! I just got so-and-so" and he knows who got him. Whether this is done in game or as a list of stats at the end is fine by me - for me it always added to the game as I usually play against friends and it adds to the enjoyment. It is a game, after all. :D

Rogue Leader mentioned feigning death further up the thread. I saw a guy feigning death in a match, and when he did it, he couldn't be shot, you had to blow him up with a grenade. I looked through the keys section of the menu and the feign death command is not there. I get the feeling that its absence is intentional.

If it's stupid, but works, it isn't stupid.

Might be useful only if the message identified a team killer

IMO, a "who killed who" message during the game would only be useful if it identified a team mate killer. Other than that, I was killed by the "enemy". I don't really care what his name was.

The logging of kill stats for a after-round report or summary sounds cool but all this additional logging of stats would have to impact the performance of the game. It it did affect the game, to me it's not worth it.

Feign death works, and they can be shot. I've killed people who feigned death.

I think there should be message flashed on your screen in red "YOU KILLED A TEAMMATE" after you hear the "friendly fire" command.

and also I think it should NOT be for the dead person. prehaps a off battle commander??

All I hear from you guys: "its not realistic" - *sigh* give me a break...

First of all, there's no strategical aspect to knowing who killed you WHATSOEVER, therefor it would not have any impact on gameplay...

NOTICE: Game is highlighted because afterall, it's just a game...

Also, when you die, how do any of you know you don't became "allknowing?" If you guys wanted ABSOLUTE realsim, why don't you go to a black screen after you die? How do any of us know if we get to rome around in "ghost cams" or through the eyes of our teammates after we die?!?!

Keep in mind people...if you don't want to look, you don't have to...

A few more things...

However...I do agree showing the weapon used by your killer is inappropriate...

*************************************************

Another thing to the "absolute realism" fanatics out there...

Why do you agree that you should be notified when you kill a team-mate? Is it realistic? If you shoot someone in the head, does he say, "Friendly fire!?" Is it realistic to know the names of the enemies?

The answers are obvious...they enhance game play...So does allowing people to know who killed them...

If absolute realism is this important to you guys, joining the military would be your best option...

I'm scary to think if you know who killed you, most pople will rush even more to do thei revange :(

There are enough rusher around there. (I HATE them)

According to you the reality of the after death is just.. BLACK ? do you have any proof or clue ? :D

I think this philosophical question will never have a concrete answer.

I'm sorry to disagree with you...

Tecnicatlities of what I said are not important, but if you must:

Rushing because you no who killed you? Whats stopping you from rushing just because you lost the round?!?!

Yes, we don't know if dying = blackness, but on the flip side do we know if dying leads to ghosting?

Anyhow, that stuff is not important. What important is the gameplay, and knowing who kills you does not hurt gameplay AT ALL. It enhances it for people like me who would like to know.

As far as im concerned, knowing who killed you is a scapegoat for rushing (from your perspective). If you want to eleeviate rushing, tell INF to dissalow jumping, and slow running speed, ect...

Exactly! So it the reason why i said we will never have a concrete answer of the question.

You pointed your finger on it... Knowing who killed you are a detail. There are more thing to do to prevent rushing behaviour. Adding realist features !

About knowing who killed you, maybe INF can display it at the end of the match, on a debriefing page...

DarkBls, your not addressing the real issue here.

The bottom line is that allowing you to know who killed you has NO adverse affects on the gameplay...

If I must repeat myself:

Yes it is not realistic, but I have talked about that in my above post about other aspects of the game not being realistic (ie. knowing who the enemy is; having a teammate say "friendly fire" after a headshot, ect...) These things help gameplay, and so does allowing you to know who your killer is...

It will save me from asking the question "Who got me" everytime I die...and most often, I do get an answer...

Good call Kisen_K

"Or you could have a "sum up" when the round was finished that would show you who killed whom?
That be great as it wouldn't screw anything up in-game"

I really, really like that idea. I wonder how hard to implement that would be though?

Don 't blame me- I didn't do it

. . .

I like to know who I killed after the game, even tough it's not real (nor is INF, it's a game), so I can mock them (at my LAN, with my friends). As I said earlier, you can make it an OPTION. So I can have it at a LAN but you can just leave it off when playing online.

Well, if you real the above posts on this page, people are even againts having a "sum things up" page saying who killed who. They claim its too "unrealistic", and I've posted about a dozen other things in my last 5 posts, and still, they don't like it...

Indiana. Kill me please.
My position is: no death messages at all. In real life you will never know who killed you, for the obvious reason that your dead. You shouldn't ever know if you shot a teammates unless its a non lethal shot, in which case they will say "friendly fire". If you know when your teammates are dead, you change your stratagy. in real life you can't just know. voices while dead should be disabled, so the only way to know if your teammates are dead is to try to communicate and see if they respond.
