Hotlinking Images

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

Just a reminder from your local hyrulian...

For your safety (as in, to prevent embarrassment or banning), don't hotlink images from servers which are not under your control or are not an image hosting service. To prevent hotlinking, some servers replace hotlinked images with an embarrassing or shock image, which would often fall under content considered a bannable offense under our forum rules. In a recent example, a hotlinked image showed an image that, if posted purposely, would result in a permaban from the forums (it was goat...).

To be safe, only post images that are hosted (1) from your own server, (2) from your own photo album account, (3) from an image hosting service, or (4) attached to your post. (3) and (4) don't take that much more effort. Get in the habit of spending the few extra seconds to stay safe.

Over there
In addition to the fact that hotlinking is risky, it is also rude. There are plenty of free image hosting sites, the most obvious being ImageShack.

Going through the classics yesterday I noticed that the "spot the difference" thread is still there... I remember the thread being totally hilarious but it's a bit pointless now as we have lost most of the images!
