The shafting the middle (and lower) classes is happening world wide. IMO, it's what capitalism is all about. Shafting the majority so a minority can sit on their bums doing nothing all day and making more money than the rest put together.

First time I thought maybe it's time for a coupe was when Bush got re-elected. And frankly, the amount of reasons not to go for it are getting less.

That said I don't think I'm ready for a revolution right now. Uni will start in september and I really want to experience that. However I have pretty much vowed that if our politicians decide to screw the students over some more, up to the point that I can't enjoy uni, that I will do whatever necessary to bring them down.
Somehow I doubt I'll get much support though. For the exact same reasons Arethusa mentioned. Leave people with **** and some still won't be up for a fight to gain more than just that.

As long as Americans are content with shoveling microwaved **** in there mouths, driving dull cars, and saving up for some imaginary "retirement" plan nothing will happen. Just think of Americans as Romans, we watch our games, feast, and hear "cool" reports of how "we" conquered some new land every few years, and feel all warm and patriotic inside. Yay!

Actually, the US army hasn't had flamethrowers for around 50 years now, if I recall correctly.

It was a George Carlin reference.

Well...no, not exactly. Capitalism is all about the "trickle down" theory that the Republicans like to believe so much. The rich have a lot of cash, so they spend it on stuff. The money from buying this stuff goes eventually to the workers who made it (http://www.investopedia.com/terms/t/trickledowntheory.asp). This is why capitalism is failing us so badly; most of that money is trickling to China...but that's another thread altogether. This is why 5%-10% of the people in the US hold 90% of the wealth (Source: Prof. J.B.Greenebaum, Fall 2004). And trust me, being the lower-class slob that I am, I can honestly say that I am not making "more money than the rest put together." Listen to Tech Nine's rap "I'm a Slacker" (http://www.lyricsdownload.com/tech-nine-slacker-lyrics.html) to get the info on what my life is like.

Edit2: Forgot to include sources...just trying to avoid another fight.

Most countries have had a revolution at some point in their history. C'mon America, have yours!

We did, remember?

They even made a Mel Gibson movie* about it.

*All events of historical significance - have, at one time or another - been made into a Mel Gibson film.

I was thinking about something a little more spontaneous, with a touch of drama, perharps with a few riots, beheadings and stuff... oh well, i have a very narrow idea of revolutions.

I kinda believe in that theory, but I don't see how the workers end up with a profit. They get enough to support their families (as long as they remain working hard) while the rich guy ends up lots richer. But yes the leaking thing is also true. In fact it's the sole reason why I am anti globalism. I love the idea of the world working as one but fact is the more we 'unite' the more the small guys get shafted. I mean why produce something in the US or europe when it's so much cheaper in China.

By the way thanks for the sources, even though the first one doesn't work, but I wouldn't get in an argument over that. You clearly said theory...
