It would seem that conventional travel to other stars is highly impractical, even if we could accelerate ourselves to the speed of light in a reasonable amount of time.

The solution instead would be to cheat.

What's the shortest distance between two points? A strait line? Wrong. The shortest distance between two points is zero.

70,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars in the universe?

I'd like to meet the guy who counted them.

And exactly how would one go about folding threedimensional space? Always wondered about that one. :)

Would it be possible to fold time and space to create a hole to take you to any part of the galaxy?

String theory works for twodimensional surfaces, but so far it's only a theory for threedimensional spaces. We don't even know yet how to control the 4th dimension to fold threedimensional space, and Einstein-Rosenbridges (also known as wormholes) don't stay open long enough to let a craft through.

There are several working theories about how we might go faster then light. But we also have to remember that Eienstien is certainly not entirely correct. There are always new discoveries being made that expand our knowledge of the universe. We probably know .00001% of what there is to know about how the universe works. That leaves a whole lot left to be discovered!

Einstien didn't know crap.

Universe is bent and you cant travel more than the light speed?
How do you come to that conlusion????
How can we NOT travel more than light speed. In vacuum there's nothing to resist that travel, AND no one ever tried to do that.
How can you know it can't be done? BS!
Let's prove those theories before speaking. I hate the whole theoretical part of physics (is it called quantum?) for the same reason. It just theories not something proven, which is far from science and more like science fiction.

I think i'll go with Einstien because unlike you he actually researched this stuff, so he has a bit more credibility then you. ;)

and no one ever said he was right, most of this stuff still isnt proven. it is a educated guess or theory. Most of what we know about space are just theorys from lots of research and knowledge of physics and other things. Einstein figured out how physics work and used that to determine that we probably cant go faster then the speed of light. the chances of him being wrong are very small, but its still there.

Personally im going with him on this in that going faster then the speed of light probably isnt possible.

I'm just saying prove things before you speak. That's what's science all about. Don't preach.

You cant always prove things with science, Einstein has merely came up with a theory that makes sense and is probably true.

I find it ironic that you think he doesnt know crap, when he did exactly what you are talking about. and preaching? what are you doing right now? Looks like preaching to me as you havent given a single bit of evidence as to why Einstein, a man regarded as one of the smartest Humans ever is wrong.

Asked if he believed the huge scale of the universe meant there was intelligent life out there somewhere, he told the paper: "Seventy thousand million million million is a big number ... it's inevitable."

hold on a sec..not to change the topic of debate or anything but there is another aspect here that is interesting too..

question for anybody... the Scientist stated that it is inevitable intelligent life exsist out there somewhere...

any thoughts on who that intellegent life might be?

I think they consider intellegent life to be like us. Life itself as already been known to exist on other planets, it did at one time on Mars for example. So far we have found fossils of microscopic creatures, but if we ever go to Mars who knows what else we might find.

Well I think the thing called THEORY makes it mean it's not necessarily true, but is quite probable.

Plus he knew more about mathmatics than you.

Hey, in the Dark Ages I bet no-one ever dreamed of the possibility of powered flight, but now (or at least until Concorde went under) we can cross the Atlantic in under 3 hours - a journey that used to take six weeks :).

SR-71 can still do it. NASA flys a few still.
