Hey everyone, I'm thinking about trying Left 4 Dead for PC. Anyone have any input on whether or not they like it or not, and also, what is the learning curve before you can adequately compete online?
![]() If I purchase it, is the Steam route a good option? Thx, Prozac

It's the only option. That retail disc just lets you bypass the initial download.

Nooooooo, I haven't purchased anything. Is L4D included in L4D2? That's why I'm asking peeps here on the forum. Because I get good info.
Thx |

It's just that you can get them both for $65
http://store.steampowered.com/app/550/ opposed to only l4d for $30 http://store.steampowered.com/app/500/ |

I very much have enjoyed L4D (hundreds & hundreds of hours worth), & quite like the L4D2 demo.

Have you looked at Steam lately? Borderlands, Borderlands, Borderlands, Borderlands.
But I'm sure we will all play L4D2 as well

You're entering the game at an odd point. L4D has been played like crazy for the last year and probably will continue to hold its own to some extent. It's just that with L4D2 weeks away it remains to be seen if the majority of the players will move to that or if it will split the player count more evenly. I'd personally get both because the first has enough life in it to make it worth $30.00 - even if you had to play mostly offline, which you won't.

Is Left For Dead good offline?

The bot AI is passable, but it can be annoying. You can certainly experience the levels that way. Clearly though it's intended for co-op and you wouldn't get to play VS at all (without mods).
I'd say try the L4D2 demo when it comes out and if you like it, consider buying them both. I'm sure the first will have some life left in it online for a few years. I know I enjoy it enough that I felt I got my money's worth at the point I reached even a few weeks of playtime. |

If you play with the bots, you really need to guide them. I mean, that's what it comes down to. Sure, it's there to back you up and etc. but well... and naturally the human gets bashed most.
But it's not that bad.

Thanks everyone for all of your feedback...I guess the only reservation I have AT ALL is the co-op thing. Because I still play UT2K4 online with a clan nightly, I had said to myself, that I didn't want to do another multiplayer game, but it looks so fun. And I also wondered what the online environment would be like.
Like when I first started playing ut2004 offline, I thought I was good, until I ventured online one night and went what the F. I rose to the challenge there because I liked the game. Now I'm on TS everynight playing real people and interacting with real people.![]() With L4D, I am hesitant, simply because I don't have time to be hard core on 2 multi p games. ![]() ![]() Thoughts? |

L4D isn't hardcore at all, it's all just in good coop fun. It's not really a skill based game, it's just having fun trying to work together to survive, so it's not like you're gonna have to practice at it or anything.
You'll be having laughs and be on a equal playing field with your 4 partners on the first or second playthrough. As for me, I played it for a few weeks but since it was the only game I was playing at the time I got bored and quit. Maybe I should start playing again, but I don't really feel like downloading it.

Would doubt so. Not with the game balance, rather than fixing the most annoying things they decided to make a new "2.0". I already uninstalled the game a long time ago, it was fun on the first few months I've played it. Survival completely disconnected me. I can't tell if L4D2 is worth it, but it sure might be for those who are new to "L4D"

I'm figuring/hoping L4D will still be around even after the sequel comes out. It's the 20th most popular PC game (according to Xfire), so it might die down a little, but I doubt it'll be a ghost town.
