Yea, that means reinstalling your Windows. Not much else you can do about it if sfc fails.

Also, sticking with XP is not a very good idea either. It will become unsupported in 3 years. So you might wait for Windows 8, but then you will pretty much be forced to update.

We're probably both updating in 2-3 years anyway. I'm not ready to learn Win7 or Win8 at this point right now, but I know it's coming. This will probably be my last WinXP install; as long as no other XP computers crap out in the meantime. Thank you.

EDIT: Just for the heck of it, I'll try a Windows repair (will be #19) just before reinstalling Windows (I'll use the SP3 slipstream disc for this and see what happens). Dang job getting in the way of getting this done sooner.

18. while getting ready for the reinstall, I noticed an LSP-fix to fix the Winsock, but I tried it and it didn't work.

EDIT AGAIN: Well, not a lot of huge blocks of time available these days, so I'll be getting back to this Tuesday night. Also, found out Friday night that her hard drives were fine so she won't lose any data.

19. Well, the Windows repair did not work, so something else must be wrong that requires a reinstall, so I'll be doing that now.
