This is the first volume of Classic Unreal Map Pack, which is a map pack that aims to bring all of the high quality remakes of previous Unreal Tournament and Unreal game maps into a map pack that would not conflict with existing map packs that offer more remakes. The UT2003 volume contains only maps that are compatible with Unreal Tournament 2003, so UT2003 players can also use it without problems. And since Unreal Tournament 2004 is also compatible with all UT2003 maps, you can install this volume to UT2004 just as well!

This map pack is a collection of 25 maps that are high quality remakes of the maps from Unreal Tournament (UT1) or Unreal. The maps span three gametypes - Capture the Flag, Deathmatch and Double Domination. A short description of each follows:

CTF-Command2k3 (remake of CTF-Command, UT1) - Technology-themed non-symmetrical CTF map.
CTF-Coret_2003 (remake of CTF-Coret, UT1) - Technology/Spaceship-themed map, a definite classic.
CTF-ForestofGiants (remake of CTF-HallOfGiants, UT1) - Hall of Giants in Gen Mo'Kai forest style. Exceptional graphics.
CTF-Gauntlet][ (remake of CTF-Gauntlet, UT1) - Nightmare-themed map, famous for the teleporter behind each flag.
CTF-Hydro-16-2k3 (remake of CTF-Hydro16, UT1) - Industrial-themed map, also known as Hydro Bases. Definite classic.
CTF-Nyleve2 (remake of NyLeve Falls, Unreal) - The second map of Unreal, adapted for Capture the Flag games.
CTF-Oblivion (remake of DM-Oblivion, UT1) - Spaceship-themed map, adapted for CTF games.
DM-1on1-Viridian2003 (remake of DM-Viridian-TOURNEY, UT1) - Technology-themed DM map, exceptional graphics.
DM-Arcane_Temple2K3 (remake of DM-ArcaneTemple, UT1) - Ancient Nali ruins-themed map with exceptional graphics.
DM-Cinder2 (remake of DM-Cinder, UT1) - Industrial-themed map, adapted for DM games.
DM-Deck16]I[ (remake of DmDeck16, Unreal) - Probably the most popular Unreal series map of all times, Deck, in a submarine theme. Unique theme.
DM-Gothic2k3 (remake of DM-Gothic, UT1) - Gothic style map, another definite classic.
DM-Grinder2 (remake of DM-Grinder, UT1) - Industrial-themed deathmatch map.
DM-HealPod2003[FuT] (remake of DmHealPod, Unreal) - Technology-themed map featuring a "heal pod". Definite classic, remade with exceptional graphics.
DM-Kgalleon2k (remake of DM-KGalleon, UT1) - Ship-themed map, definite classic with exceptional graphics.
DM-Malevolence ver2 (remake of DM-Malevolence, UT1) - Malevolence in Egypt style.
DM-Morbias2004 (remake of DmMorbias, Unreal) - One of the most popular Unreal series maps, a rocket arena remade with exceptional graphics.
DM-Pyramid (remake of DM-Pyramid, UT1) - Egyptian style pyramid-shaped map, featuring a zero gravity zone in the middle. This version is further from the original, but has exceptional graphics.
DM-Pyramid][ (remake of DM-Pyramid, UT1) - A more classic approach to DM-Pyramid.
DM-Shrapnel][2k3 (remake of DM-Shrapnel][, UT1) - Industrial-themed map, easily recognised by a Super Shield Pack on a platform.
DM-SpaceNoxx (remake of DM-SpaceNoxx, UT1) - A technology-themed map featuring a small space station floating in space.
DM-SpaceNoxx2k3 (remake of DM-SpaceNoxx, UT1) - SpaceNoxx in Egyptian style.
DM-Stalwart][ (remake of DM-Stalwart, UT1) - Industrial-themed map, recognised by a "garage" style.
DM-TundraMonastery (remake of DmTundra, Unreal) - A monastery in the winter. Exceptional graphics.
DOM-Arcane_Temple2k3 (remake of DM-ArcaneTemple, UT1) - Ancient Nali ruins-themed map, adapted for Double Domination. Exceptional graphics.
DOM-Cinder2 (remake of DM-Cinder, UT1) - Industrial-themed map, notable for a lava pit near one of the points.
DOM-Malevolence ver2 (remake of DM-Malevolence, UT1) - Malevolence in Egypt style and adapted for Double Domination.

Cool, I love having a collection of UT remakes for UT2003/4...with Forest of Giants being my favorite one.

But to get them to work in UT2004 I have to open & resave each one in UnrealEd unless someone knows a better way. {shrug}

Yes, they are supposed to work just fine. So that's something on your end, MrMaddog. Maybe you have automatic conversion off somewhere or something like that.

cool map pack

I only tried these in UT2004, so some that I don't review have obvious reasons, but here are the reasons for not reviewing some of these:

-- CTF-Hydro-16-2k3 > sky stretched with stripes (eerie strange skybox) in UT2004, not bad but just irritating compared to some other maps; ok, I lied, here's more of my review on this one: no preview shot, made from scratch; like the water spheres, slime, bridges, layout and dark inside, bots are very good and I had to end the match with a 0-0 tie. Also, needs Hydro-16.utx to run.
-- CTF-Oblivion > won't even appear in the menu (needs decayed.usx to work, see review below)
-- DM-Arcane_Temple2k3 > already have 2k4 version
-- DM-Cinder2 > already have DOM 2k4 version
-- DM-Gothic2k3 > already have 2k4 version
-- DM-Grinder2 > already have 2k4 version
-- DM-HealPod2003[FuT] > same or dang near same as TDB version
-- DM-Kgalleon2k > never liked map all that much
-- DM-Pyramid > sky stretched with stripes in UT2004, these look really bad; also never liked that much either
-- DM-Shrapnel][2k3 > already have 2k4 version
-- DM-SpaceNoxx2k3 > just decided to keep one of these, so it was the other
-- DOM-Arcane_Temple2k3 > sky streched with stripes in UT2004, just bad; and have DM 2k4 version
-- DOM-Cinder2 > already have 2k4 version

Now here are the reviews:
CTF-Command2k3 >> no preview shot but good remake of original UT version; scaled bigger well, same music and looks cleaner with same symmetrical gameplay of original. This one seems to work fine in UT2004; I'll mention any UT2004 bugs I notice with the rest of these reviews but if I don't mention anything then they also work fine in UT2004.

CTF-Coret-2003 >> remake of original UT maps; looks different and slightly upgraded for UT2003/UT2004. I especially noticed the middle section was changed to accommodate a double jump. I also noticed the different music. CTF-CoretClassic is way different than this one, more detailed and scaled to UT2003/UT2004 gameplay.

CTF-ForestOfGiants >> this Hall of Giants/Tokara Forest combo is done well and I like the gameplay as well as the skybox under the forest canopy. There are lots of ways into and out of the bases as all good CTF maps should have in them.

CTF-Gauntlet][ >> the original UT map (The Iron Gauntlet) is an ol' CliffyB map made in a classic, simple CTF style and tight in spots. The UT2003 version (The Iron Gauntlet ][) is scaled up for UT2003 with a lot more details on the ceilings and walls with appropriate stained glass, but the bots can't defend. This UT2004 version is almost the same, but with some mesh/tex tweaks and the bots defend better.

CTF-Nyleve2 >> "Nyleve Falls 2", an excellent remake with all ambient sounds, music, gameplay and this engine makes this Unreal level look even better. Always a tough level for CTF, but still fun.!:)

CTF-Oblivion - from CUMP map pack (needs decayed.usx to work); like the new meshes/textures and other interesting changes to this map for CTF (fans, steam and other ship modifications); the layout chosen seems to work well for CTF with good flow and the bots are good in this tight map.

DM-1on1-Viridian2003 >> "Viridian Dreams" is one of my fav. maps for the original UT with excellent flow, connectivity, weapon placement and looks. The somewhat "cheerful" atmosphere of original is exchanged for serious music, dark gray looks of this one. Great upgraded graphics with still great gameplay and still fun! Bots could be a little better in this version. There is a map called DM-1on1-Viridian2k4, but I never tried it.

DM-Deck16]l[ >> I'm not really a big fan of the Deck maps, but this was a little different and somewhat fun with nice graphics too! This map was original made for Unreal and there are a few more Deck maps out there made by the Legacy group and others.

DM-Morbias2004 >> I like the upgrade in graphics with the same great Morbias arena gameplay. This was original made for Unreal also. I did find DM-Kothoga slightly more fun in UT2004 as a Morbias clone.

DM-Pyramid][ >> not really a big fan of this map in any UT series game and I was never that good at it either, but it does take a bit of getting used to. I like it better in UT2004 and there is another map that looks good called DM-1on1-Pyramid2k4.

DM-SpaceNoxx >> also not one of my favorites, but I'm better at this one than Pyramid. This is definitely a nice upgrade for UT2003/UT2004. There is a DM-FST-SpaceNoxx map out there, but the only FST map I have is FST-Sacrifice.

DM-Stalwart][ >> this definitely is one of the better maps for the whole UT series and done well here, but I can't seem to get the Big Keg O' Health in this one. I like the UT3 versions also.

DM-TundraMonastery >> Yikes, now I know why I didn't play the Unreal version that much (good skybox but graphics are just OK). For UT,"Tundra-][-The Second Coming" has better graphics and the same skybox. This UT2003/UT2004 version is opened up a bit for these games with different graphics. It has better bots, but not sure about the weapon placement. There is also a map out there called DM-Tundra-Classic-UT2k4 and this is my favorite of them all.

DOM-Malevolence ver2 >> no preview shot, looks good for UT2004 with Egyptian theme but not too sure how it works for DDOM and my bots suck.

Other versions of Malevolence that I know of include:
>> DM-Malevolence (UT) - obviously a classic layout with great flow, connectivity and lighting; weapon placement not as I would do it but it still works; bots are good and fast.
>> DM-Malevolence-NSR1 (UT2003) - nighttime with skybox and outdoor scenery and vines and aged arena; similar weapon/item placement, upscaled for UT2003 so more wide-open and the bots are tough.
>> DM-Malevolence2k4 (UT2004) - by MsM, even more decrepit version with rain, rust and clouds in the sky, classic music, cobwebs, fans, wires hanging down; similar layout but some tighter areas than in UT2003 version and bots are somewhat easier.
>> There is also a DM-Malevolence2004 for UT2004 by the Legacy group and other say it has good flow, good bots, ambient sounds may be too loud for 1on1 play. Then, of course, there is the cool UT3 version by Barballs which was almost complete.:)

Where's DM-Peak; the last level in the DM Tournament that made me throw my mouse at my screen?
