~º^º~º^º~Getting a Server List Without the Master Server~º^º~º^º~

Here's my attempt at a step by step walkthrough of how to get a server list working in U2:XMP! If you want to do it the easier way using the master server created by Omen and EQ² then do it this way.

First - Go to U2XMP\SYSTEM
Second - Open the file labeled MyU2XMP.ini
Third - Go to "Edit" >> "Find" and search for the line [U2.BrowserMonkey]
Fourth - Scroll down past

ShowFullServers=True
ShowPasswordedServers=True
ShowListenServers=True
ShowTimedOutServers=True
NumServersPingedPerSecond=10

Fifth - Add the lines:

Sixth - Save changes to your MyU2XMP.ini file with unicode encoding.
Seventh - Start up XMP, hit esc, click "PLAY ONLINE", then either click "REPING" on the left, or click "FAVS" on the bottom, join a game, pwn.

Also, if you do not like to refer to this every time it gets edited you can use ASE to format the ip's for you so you can copy them strait out of there into your MyU2XMP.ini without my help. (But keep in mind that the new master server makes it much easier, so if you haven't set your XMP up to notice the new master server you should do that now)

To do this open ASE and click on the options button () then go to the Misc tab and find where it says "Custom copy format" and paste in PendingServers=(Favorite="x",Passworded="",Listen="",Name="{hostname}",Ping={ping}.000000,Map="{map} ",Players={clients}.000000,MaxPlayers={maxclients}.000000,IP="{ip}",Port={port}.000000,QueryPort={qu eryport}.000000,Index=1.000000)

Now to get a server into your MyU2XMP.ini file select the server(s) you want to add, do ctrl+x then go back to where you were pasting the ip's earlier and paste it in like you normally would (ctrl+v).

~º^º~º^º~Getting the Master Server to Appear Online~º^º~º^º~

The following steps are obsolete thanks to EQ² and the XMP:CE http://www.xmpcommunity.com/



First - Download and install U2:XMP. If you can't find your CD or you never had one to begin with this may help you with the installation of U2:XMP.

Second - If you get a "Master Server Connection Failed" message when going to the server browser, do not worry, it's more than likely not your pc. Make sure that you have the new master server patch (explained below in a little more detail) installed and set up. If the master server still is offline you just have to wait until the master server comes back online or alternatively use an external program such as Xfire, ASE, GameSpy Arcade, or QTracker. I recomend Xfire for server searching although it has a slightly less superior server scanner. It is an I.M. program that allows you to join the servers that your friends are in along with viewing an XMP server list. Now there is a new Xfire script made by sp3tt that allows you to view the servers with the name colors included which can be found in this thread.

Third - Download and install the 7710 patch.
Without this patch you'll get version mismatches on all of the known servers so you won't be able to play on them.

Fourth - Download the U2:XMP Master Server patch here. A readme for setting up the patch can be found here

Fifth - Go to your XMP/System directory and open up MyU2XMP.ini. Find the section [IpDrv.MasterServerLink] and make sure it resembles the following:

If you can't find that section in your MyU2XMP.ini file, just copy & paste the above into the file.

Sixth - Download and install map packs such as the CBP, cXp, APv2, GFP, and the Raptor Race mod.
You'll be able to join all servers without this.
However, most of the popular servers have this installed, so you'll have to download the maps one by one as they cycle in on the server anyway.
It's better to just download it from the internet, since server downloads are generally much slower and put unnecessary strain on the server.

Now you should be able to connect to all of the popular servers.
If not, make sure your firewall isn't blocking XMP from accessing the internet.

The whole point of it was to get -everyone- on the same playing level by making the information public. There's a reason that exploits in the professional world, and even the current gaming world, are generally made public after a month or two...

Hi Smot, with the Wednesday night thing going on, can you update the current procedure to play XMP?

1. download Community Edition
2. fix the server list crashing problem
3. grab some maps like those made by Tak
4. come play Wednesday 8PM EST!

I normally play with Striker, EQ2, and one of his buds from TS3 once a week or so aswell as in EQ's teamspeak. Speaking of which, i gotta PM you about something soon.
