Sometime within the next two weeks or so, i'll have a brand new used system (WOOHOO), the specs are:
450 Mhz.
64 SDram.
8 GB-Hd.
Local bus 2mb video card.

Now everything is damn sweet, exept that bloody video card.

I have never owned a decent video/3D accelerator-card, and have never been in the marked for one, untill now!
so help a goat out, plz?

As said before, im no rich man, and hardware costs more than bouble what u americanas pay here in DK, so im looking for something in the medium price range thats worth my while, what can u guys recomend?

Now on to my dream:

Theres allways been somthing missing on my HD, u see, im a big WW2 plane freak, i live and breath for'em, but my curent system is either too slow for a decent sim, or two fast (not enough conventional memory), there are a few good sims that would run on this crap....if i had a 3D card that is.
So i have allways been stuck with CYAC (witch is a nice game and all, but hey, even a goat needs graphix right).

So now that playing some WW2 sims seems posible, what can people recomend?
( i never realy took a clouser look at whats out there, cus it was the imposible dream that could never be)

Combat mission was really cool, it was 3D and had an awesome system. I played the demo and it blew me away. Close combat is a good series as well, but i still say combat mission is the top of the line for WW2 ground combat sims.

Well, my current system (AMD k6-2 450 13 gig HD with 8 gig to windowz, 5 to linux, SB Live, 128 meg ram, and a Riva TNT 1 card...) seems to handle my TNT ok, but to tell you the truth, if you can scrap up the cash, go for a voodoo 3 possibly. Voodoo cards seem to run great on low end (yes, that's low end... hehe. just like mine) systems, and they have been around for a while... I wouldn't suggest putting in a SB Live if it doesn't have one, just to make sure... it'll suck resources. Voodoos are widely supported... GeForces are great, but you've gotta have a system to match to run those.

I love my Voodoo 3 3000AGP and they go for about $100US.

Can you mailorder one from the states any cheaper the buying one off the shelf there in DK?

My system is a PIII 450 (WindowsME), 1-3GB and 1-6GB drives, 128M ram and a V3-3K vid card.

INF runs real nice at 1024x768

Well zundy, it depends, if the customs doesent check the packege, i get it chep, but if its one of the packeges they do check....double taxes...penalty taxes..extra moms and ****...it becomes even more expencive then off the shelf.
It all stands or falls with luck.

Sounds like i should check out the WOODOO 3.

Im a bit confused be youre post Miscman...Ground combat???, im only realy interested in WW2 AIR COMBAT.
When i want ground combat...i play INF ;)

But thanks anyways.

Yeah, the Voodoo3, TNT2 Ultra or a GeForce MX would be a few good mid-budget choices for video cards. I have a TNT2 Ultra and get pretty decent framerates with my Celeron 400. You can get the TNT2 Ultra for only around $75 US (OEM, pricewatch.com).

I haven't really gotten too into WW2 combat sims (although I probably should), but here are a few goodies I've seen in the news:

B-17 Flying Fortress 2 (high requirements, however)

Combat Flight Simulator 2: WW2 Pacific Theater

Jane's WW2 Fighters

Have fun with that new system.

Have you been looking at World War 2 Online? It's an air sim... as well as a tank, navy and infantry sim in a massively multiplayer persisent campaign. There's loads of potential problems with the design, but if they pull it off it'll be one hell of a game. I'm not getting my hopes up until I'm in the game, however.
