Hi guys, long time no see.

Well, a lot of stuff has happened in the last few weeks. I've not been around for a while, yall know that. I let PuF take over my time at work. Well, when someone spends all day posting an average of 23 posts a day for 7 or 8 months, it gets noticed. While yall know I'm the Network Administrator at my place of work, we're a remote office. Well, it seems they started monitoring the firewall traffic and found I was spending a rather inordinate amount of time on non-work related sites.

Guilty as charged. For someone who's job it is to watch over other's access, this was pretty stupid of me.

Well, thank god my direct boss is a good man. He went to bat for me with the home office (they wanted me fired). After that we talked it over and I told him it would stop right away, never to happen again. I told him he wouldn't regret it. And as yall know, I'm a man of my word.

That explains my time away from the PuF family. This doesn't mean I'll be around any more than I have been the last 2+ weeks, just felt I owed yall an explanation.

Lately, things have changed on the |C|ondemned side of life. I seem to have let Unreal Tournament get in the way of spending time with my kids (Ali, Serena, Michael). Recently (last 3 weeks or so), |C|ondemned reached #1 on Teamplay and Proving Grounds, as well as #5 on OGL. We accomplished far more than any of us really dared to dream. I guess after reaching the "peak" I was able to look back at how I got there. I found that my 3 year old barely knows how to count to 20 and doesn't know her ABC's. And my 20 month old, while he has a good comprehension level, he doesn't talk nearly as well as I think he should. Not what I expected to see upon reaching such a "proud" point.

So, I've removed myself from the Proving Grounds 1v1 DM ladder where I was #2 (XS|Pain took me out hard!) and from the 1v1 RA ladder where I was #1 and undefeated. I've removed myself from active status with |C|ondemned possibly only to play emergency backup for the occasional match. They want me to stick around, but most likely for the server. ;)

I hope I've not lost too much time from my children's formative years. I can only hope I'm not too late to be the father they need me to be. As a friend of mine said.
Your family needs you more than we do, so please tend to them and integrate yourself as a father, not as a gamer with the occassional "role model" skits.
I think he hit it on the head (this was in response to my "semi-retirement" post in our private forum).

To their credit, all of |C| has been supportive of this decision. For that, I wish to publicly thank them. Not a single one took a negative attitude about this.

I just wanted to say thanks to all of yall, and everyone in |C|ondemned, for making my UT ride a fun one. Without PuF & |C|, UT would have been just another game. I'll stop by from time to time, but if you wanna say "hi", just drop me an e-mail. :)

For those of you who made it this far, I'm impressed. :)

Good night "yall". :D

After 4000 some odd posts, most of which were helpful and informative, you don't need to be apologizing to anyone. I haven't known you all that long but from the time that I have you've been a great help, and understanding of all that have ever asked anything of you.

If real life beckons, and you feel you need to spend more time with your children then by all means, do so. I agree with your decision whole-heartedly and hope to see you around when you do have a few extra minutes. But if I don't, good luck to you, and thanks for being here for me and everyone else. :)

You got me choked up hear, seriously. I have also let UT take over my life and have left little time for my family, friends, and school. I know its a tough decision to walk away from the game, but you did the right thing. I'm just some punk kid, but you are a father and that is far more important than any game. On behalf of BHS I would just like to say how much we are going to miss playing with you over at PG. You were part of some of our most memorable games. Thanks for everything(including the server)!

It's been fun

Even though I'm disappointed that you have to go, I support your decision to put family first.

We've played some good games, and we've had some good talks. Whether it be helping organize the PuF vs OzUT match, or deciding what kind of computer I should look for, it was always my pleasure to hear your advice.

I remember playing against you in February and March and looking up admirably at your status as a great UT player. You were the single most driving force in helping me become a good UT player.

Specifically, I remember our 1 vs 1s on Turbine and Codex, two memorable games, not because of their scores (I lost 10-9 on Turbine and lost by 20 or 30 frags on Codex), but because you told me I was on the brink of breaking through as a strong player.

Anyways, it's been a real pleasure playing with you.

Have fun, and have a happy post-UT life.

Well Roo, it's been a fun time man! I enjoyed getting whooped by you all the time, and I enjoyed chatting/posting with ya on PuF.

I believe you made the best decision in the matter. Family is infinitely more important than some stupid game! Teach those ABC's and 1-2-3's!! And please don't lose you're job man! (then we would lose the Roost!!! *rofl*)

J, you are a good man and you have nothing to apologize for! You have offered more help here than most of us probably will in the next 20 years :D Please know that your contributions to this community (and outside) are appreciated!

Take care of yourself and hopefully you might find time for a game or two every once in a while!

Good luck in the future bro :)

I applaud your Decision Roo. We are a community and we must support each other. I thought you only had 1 kid. But, 3 is definitely more than enough to keep you busy. My sister has a 17 month old daughter and she's more than enough. Your family does need you and I think everything else should be secondary.

We'll definitely miss you.

Hope you stop by now and then. I shall take note of 4329. :D

hey man, refocus away, kids are definitely more important than getting your ass kicked.. I mean playing UT :)

seriously though, they are young. they sleep early. you have plenty of opportunity to play should you decide it's still something you wish to do man... and I hope this isn't the last we'll see of ya. until next time man!

Roo.... you were the first person to respond to my first post on PuF and thru all the past months I've gotten to know ya, you've always been the voice of reason, a fair and really cool person, a great moderator, and a great UT player. You'll be missed for sure.... your family is richer for our loss or something like that :) Hope to still see ya from time to time around the place, we'll keep a spot on the couch reserved for you here at PuF.

We'll all be sorry to see you go Roo and you'll surely be missed. Playing with a clan takes lots of time and so does playing on lots of ladders so I understand the need to leave, especially when you have kids. You can come back to UT when you've retired and the young whippersnappers have faster reflexes than you, but you can still be the voice of reason. ;) Thanks for being around and making PuF a better place.

Well Rooster it's been a blast playing side by side with you. Hope we can still get some games in if you have some spare time. Kids can be a handful but I think your kids are going to be just fine.

I hate to see you go just as much as I hated seeing DragonAsh leave us. He was always kool with me and always will be. UT would be just a game that I would have stopped playing if it werent for people like you Rooster.

Make sure you keep in touch, I'm thinking of upgrading my processor/motherboard soon and I might need some advice. So don't wander off too far.

When I think of all the fun I had playing UT I think of a few people/groups.
|C| - A great clan with great players and great people
PuF - Cause everyone is so damn kool and I never get bored hanging out with you guys.
MyUnreal - The reason I started playing CTF and the reason I kept playing UT when I was ready to give it up.
Jenny - She made UT the funniest thing in the world. Potshots wouldn't be Potshots without her. (We've got plans for Potshots ;) doin it for the love of email)
Wesly - This guy just kicks ass!

Well the list could go on and on but this post isnt about me =)

Anyway, Rooster keep in touch and hopefully you can sneak in some UT time soon.

You definately made the right choice. Enjoy time with your kids now before they grow up and go away to college or something.
Thank you for all the time you put into PuF. We will miss you.

Rooster,

Your level of involvement and your attitude within the Unreal Tournament community has been phenomenal. Your contributions will never be forgotten.

I remember during the first week that PG launched, how eager Rooster was to get involved and how encouraging him and his team have been to us since then.

Glad to hear you're getting things straightened out at work and at home. Take it easy, but don't be a stranger. :)

The way you moderated this forum was one of the main reasons why I made PuF my home forum. The helping hands and UT knowledge that you find on PuF was another; and much of that was/is you.

Although your decission hurts for us and we hate to see you go, we all know it's the right thing to do. I wish you all the best for your future.

(Hmmm .... it should teach me a lesson. Posting on forums during the day is having quite an obvious negative impact on my work lately.=/)
