Brief description:
In production for about 2 months now, our mod focuses on continuing with what customut(UTComp) brought to the table and enhancing on those features as well as adding new features. There will be 3 physics modes : Vanilla UT3, Quake 3, Fast Paced UT/Quake style modes. These modes will be voteable via console and gui. We have already completed the UT/Quake style mode with tweaks to all weapons, air control, etc. A video of this mode can be found here : http://www.livevideo.com/video/2B34A82210924970A75109CAD33E65A6/utq-trick-video-1.aspx It might need a few tweaks but it is pretty stable and has already been optimized for netplay. For these 2 new modes we have recreated Quake 3's Campgrounds(DM6) and Temple of Retribution(DM7). DM6 has already been publically released, just look for creepyd's version. Here are some early screenshots of our next quake map remake DM7:
http://www.btinternet.com/~creepyd/DM7/Image1.jpg
http://www.btinternet.com/~creepyd/DM7/Image2.jpg

Also, one of our coders is working on a new cpma style hud. Here is an SS:
http://img110.imageshack.us/my.php?image=weaponbarnq3.jpg

We are also adding Rocket Arena. You can already Rocket Jump in our new physics mode so basically its just a matter of setting up the gametype with appropriate settings as well as creating a map or 2.

probably is. I finally saw bloodshot on msn the other day. i asked what happened and he said he'd been too busy and the community was too small :/ They shouldve at least released what they had, it was pretty good actually...

Oh well, not really sure why he listed me as a team member, just did some hud stuff as a favor, but whatever ;)

BTW: here's what the final hud looked like. I guess if anyone wants something like this, let me know. might as well put it to good use if someone needs it...

It's sad but true - the community *is* too small to convince people who want to make mods that others play to actually spend the effort on large projects.

this is funny.
"the community is to small to make maps for"
not that your comment is funny but if the devs actually go by this in their decision to make mods then they are screwed from day one.

if all they are doing is chasing a game that has millions of users that play the game they are going to mod for they might as well start making WoW maps.

if you are lucky enough to get a dev kit like UT3 then you should really try and show you work and let it shine.
UT3`s toolset is one of the best i have seen!

ive been messing around with mapping since worldcraft map editor way back in the days of quake "1" and unreal "1"

the tools the devs GIVE to the public (espicially like the set released for UT3) well any real devs should just be really happy.

the tool set for HL2 (hammer map editor and XSI modeler (the free version)) is another great tool set.

Q4 tool set and even GTK are sub standard compared to HL2 and UT3 tool set/sdk.

if your looking for a user base the way PC`s used to be about 5-10 years ago your not going to have it PERIOD!

consoles are what the devs (most of em) are turning too. it makes them the most money...they dont have to worry about adding authentication servers or adding copy protection.

with UT3 and its SDK (tell me if im wrong) but anything you dev on the PC will work on the PS3...???
just because you dont HEAR or SEE alot of chat/messages on the boards from that install base dont mean the "UT3 is dead"

if you arent going to mod/edit/code for this engine then what the hell are you going to do it with? WoW, Crysis and its x64 restriction, Q4 and its DEAD community, oh wait your going to make CoD4 maps?

idk but UT3 sdk/toolset is TOP NOTCH if your not going to use that to show your work off then i would really like to know what you are going to do...sit on your hands?

tdbone1 : clearly you aren't an experienced modder. That or you are someone that loves to spend their time working on mods for games that nobody plays or even knows about. This isn't an issue of "Work on stuff that you want to play, not things you think others want to play." This is an issue of what you get for the time you put in. I love modding, but I won't even bother working on a major multiplayer mod when there isn't anyone who will play it. It's not something you can play by yourself.

You are absolutely right that consoles are seeing a focus on AAA titles that used to be on PCs. The difference with UT3 is that everyone that played Unreal, UT, UT2003, and/or UT2004 was primed and ready to jump to UT3. Epic stood to finally bring together the disparate communities. Sadly, that hasn't happened, for a number of reasons.

I don't mod because I'm hoping to get into the games industry; not any more. That's a path of rapidly decreasing return these days. Since I have a full-time job already, I mod for the fun of it. It's not fun when there's nobody willing to play or at least test your multiplayer mod.

BULL CRAP!

Counter Strike "1"......most online gamers or close to it.....when did it come out....1998 or 1999 something like that

game is 10years old and is still one of the top 5 multiplayer games out.....top 5 meaning with the most online gamers.

BUILD and they will come....

you modders are acting just like the big game companies.....you are targeting the masses....OMFG! please STOP!

if your mod is good people will play it and MIGRATE to it.

do you know there are more people palying quake 3 mods then people playing quake 4 mods?

come on stop thinking like Microsoft and start thinking like linux.

UT3 is a great engine and great sdk imho....there is no reason why someone cant make a great mod/maps/coding that will keep people on this games for a few years to come at least.

hell UT3 is still a great game just by itself.....people really need to stop making maps so damn dark....it just looks like your trying to hide somehting.

imho what is missing is a game that has players that stand out from the background gloominess....easily targets that can be seen.

people want a really insanely fast twitch shooter not a game where you have to squint to see the targets.

the mappers think they are making there games "feel scary or whatever" when they make their maps dark...but to the players who play those maps they just cant aim/shoot the target as fast as they normal could if there was no darkness....remember doom3 and its flashlight?
yea that went over really well

what do people think the best FPS fragging games that ever existed....ill tell you....quake and UT series for sure.
its long been know that the UT series looked the best and the quake series felt faster....until UT3 came out....now UT3 feels excellent imho now just take all that dark maps out and make something fresh and to easily seperate the targets from the darkness

ok now people are STILL playing these games that were created many years ago and i think it has to do with VISIBILITY and gameplay.

COD4 is not one of the games that has been out for long time so but i incuded it cause it has a huge player base right now and you have to look at it and say why.

CSS i included cause i believe it is doing very well cause they stuck to the same formula as Counter Strike 1.

note: look at very bottom at the UT3 screens AFTER you have looked at the rest.

http://recensioni-videogiochi.dvd.it/images/Unreal_Turnament_3/Unreal-Tournament-3-05-l.jpg

anyhow eventhough UT3 itself isnt easy to seperate the players from the darkness and ground clutter YOU mod makers can fix this easily!!!
why dont someone just try and re-release one of the mods (or similar) like the ones mentioned above but for UT3

im just saying eye candy is robbing the hard core gamers that could just play with 1 texture for the whole map as long as it was bright....
in all previous games it was the hard core crowd that got the main stream gamers to play there games...
remember these were pc games way back when.....when most gamers were console gamers....and the hard core pc gamers got alot of those console gamers to come over to PC

i think game devs have forgot the formula for creating a game that can stick around more then a year with 10s of thousands of people online instead os hundreds...
sure eye candy is GREAT as long as it dont interfere with fragging..
UT3 has FINALLY got the gameplay down...that is the most important part....now just brighten up some maps and take the clutter out and maybe make a mutator that makes the game play similar to those older mods.

hopefully and i mean hopefully this sinks into the devs heads for modders/mappers from both the free and pay communities.

like i say ive played every FPS since wolfenstiend 3d and some before that....look up dungeons of daggorath (imho i think that was the 1st 3d FPS)
here are some screens to it

http://vgdb.vectrex.com/vgdb/darktower.gif
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/b/b0/DaggorathWizard.png/250px-DaggorathWizard.png

ok ive said my piece....PC gaming has fell apart cause the art department is trying to make the games look so good (which they do) but they dont play as good as they used to.

farcry and crysis and look at QUAKE IV.....WTF happened to Q4 you ask...the long awaited sequel that was a mega hit called Q3 and Q2 And Q1....Q4 completely screwed up.....any game developer knows this...
just look at its history and its easy to see where it fell apart.
its strange cause UT, Q3 and CS all had mostly people on 56k modems and they still played better then 75% of games out today when we have DSL and CABLE internet....now how is that possible you ask....cause the developer thinks about graphics first which is a big no no..

one last time.
taylor FPS towards this.
what is the fastest, quickest, instantaneous hand eye twitch game i can make....

Well this is the first time I've heard about RA:UT3! Count me in on the mapping, I need to reteach myself some mapping, but if you remember, back in the day I designed some decent maps for RA:UT.

Rocket Arena should definitely be a major gameplay addition! I've missed it dearly, and seen enough requests on the Epic forums and around the net to know that I'm not the only one who realized how much that gameplay offered in terms of fun and excitement.

Yay rocket jumping!

Bump. If someone could even confirm this is dead (I hope it isn't) that would be great so I can stop checking this thread on a regular basis.

I'm pretty sure I have most of the files if someone wants to take over the project. I can't imagine that bloodshot would complain since he's pretty much abandoned it. I would still work on the hud if needed, but that's about all. Pretty tight schedule lately...

You do understand that if this gets completed? it will be a high achivement for the UT community as a whole? I don't understand why bloodshot would abandon such a project when being close to completion on an alpha edition.

Agreed. Nothing even comes close to this mod. If you guys could just wrap it up and even release it as a stable beta I can only imagine how popular it would be.
