Has it ever occurred to you dumb ****s that people were waiting on a "change" from obama and were greatly disappointed so they protested? There are radical elements to both parties. There were Black Panthers at polling stations intimidating people not voting for Obama.

Also there have been people protesting bush. LOTS OF PEOPLE.

Stupid biased thread, etc.

Well some people sure, but you may not realize this but the protests founder started getting support way before even the elections so really it has nothing to do with Obama at its core like I said earlier.

jk ;)

BTW I didn't compare any party or anyone here to fascist Germany back then. TWD stated that we have other problems right now and that these race issues just distract from the real ones. I just think it is dangerous when people state that it doesn't matter if certain people showing publicly that they think that humans of color or a different race are inferior or not as capable as white folks. This behavior should not be tolerated. Reminds me a bit on the crisis in the late 20's...economy going down, people lose jobs, cry for a "strong hand" and blaming the victims...

...anyways...

WTF ...I am posting in a political thread...

I think you are missing the larger point here though. Racism has always existed, and today isn't any different. It may be true that people at the protests had racist signs. My question to you is "ok so what does talking about this accomplish?" Absolutely nothing. This is nothing more than the same ploy that Democrats have been playing for years. They think that because there are some racist Republicans that they don't have to debate the issues.

Sorry but when I read your post all I hear is "OMFG PEOPLE ARE VOICING THEIR OPINIONS!!! WE CANT HAVE THIS!"

Why is it so hard for you all to discuss the actual issue at hand? People only change the subject when they're losing the argument. How about instead of throwing a fit over the opinions and the ways they were expressed at the protests, you actually engage in a discussion about the issues at hand?

Is it so wrong to think that the government isn't doing it's job when it comes to US debt? Why is it so bad for people to organize events together so that this issue can get the attention it deserves?

@TWD: Well, being raised in Germany, Racism is a touchy subject for me, and I think it is for any German. I didn't state that Republicans are racists. I actually stated that I do NOT compare any party with fascists. Of course Racism has always existed. That doesn't mean that it should be tolerated. I know that freedom of speech is very important for many Americans, however, if these protests were held in Germany some would have ended up in prison for their racist remarks. You know, people watching these things on television, and what kind of reputation is this for this country?
"What does talking about it accomplish?" Nothing? Well, "friendoh" you are quite wrong about that. Discussing it and actively opposing it can make all the difference. In your family, at your workplace, in public.
Even the small things count.
I give you an example: I was invited to a family gathering here in the States last year. So, everyone had BBQ, beer and we were all having a great time telling jokes ...then one Uncle, who had earlier described himself as a redneck, started telling "Black" jokes - well my wife simply told him in front of all that these kind of jokes are not being tolerated here and if he keeps telling them he has to leave. He apologized and everything was fine - no hard feelings, just a reminder "Ok, this is it - no more"
I think it makes all the difference. Will the guy keep his view on black people? Most certainly, but others who watched the scenario might not. They might feel it is actually degrading to do this.
BTW we are not Democrats and we do not belong to any other political party.
Yes, this has nothing to do with the real issues about spending, taxes, gov. growing larger etc. - but if people, not just a few bad apples, publicly throw the race issue in, as if it has something to do with the problems, than one must oppose it imo.

In this case, there is no evidence that it wasn't a few bad apples. I agree that talking about how poor taste racism is is probably a good thing, but TWD's point still stands that it is just a strawman to demonize the protests without discussing what they are actually about.

Well, I doubt that, since you don't have to hold a sign up to have negative feelings towards people of color, diff. ethn. background etc. Anyways. Just my two cents. You guys can go on with the actual debate. You have my permission! ahhh don't you guys love that?

I still think cloning Nixon and put him in office would be a better opition than what were in now IMO. Look at the results back then, nixon had the economy on a even playing field, his buddy kissinger had the world understanding the U.S's views on certain subjects invovling trade and revenues. The U.S. was in the spotlight in a goiod way, then WaterGate came in and F'ed it all to hell.

I say the U.S. would be better off with someone more like nixon in the office. That's my say on it. I didn't for obama, I voted 3rd party myself.

I recently discovered that Nixon initiated the "Endangered Species Act of 1973" - that was a positive surprise to me.

lol, that's mccarthy-era propaganda right?

Awwww how dismissive of you. Your statement is about as naive and pointless as BBA's opinion that anyone who disagrees with Obama is racist. I don't think Obama was elected just so any dissenters could be labeled racists, but BBA, Garofalo and that wannabe on MSNBC are sure taking the bait and falling in line to protect their golden calf Obama. You could say it's "icing" on the cake. Lets not forget the possible "plants" that attend rallies and town hall meetings that shout racist slogans or hold up racists signs.

Just like you think everyone who voted for Obama worships him.

Exactly.

I bet that if Iron Archer's guy was voted in, that he would complain vehemently about those who say that he or she was the messiah of his or her constituents.

Edit: Balton is right. That "cartoon" that Iron Archer posted reeks of propaganda.

somewhere; sometime?
hal: Oh dear, an independent such as myself is so disappointed with the behavior of such individuals. Not to say that their opposition composes themselves to the contrary; I am disgusted to no end by these hypocrites, as any political party is made up of clowns and fools. Anyone who blindly follows either should be ashamed. Good heavens, is this the high road I see below me? Indeed, I seem to be walking upon it!

this made me chuckle.

How did he get elected? ;)

Well, technically speaking the Nazi Party got elected and then appointed him chancellor, but he was the frontrunner for the party and it was more or less him the people were voting for. "Hitler over Germany" and all that.

Wait, you link to a propaganda cartoon that says that any sort of socialism equates to a lack of freedom (as if an economic system somehow dictates a police state) and then when he calls it what it is: reactionary McCarthyism (okay, it's not accusing anyone of being a communist, but still), suddenly he's being dismissive?

I love that you follow this up with the golden calf imagery, the statement that political dissent is now racism, etc.

Iron, I love your posts because I doubt even you take them seriously.
