CNN News Story on Iranian Earthquake

The 6.3 earthquake crushed the ancient city of Bam, with 5,000 already confirmed dead...with fears of 20,000. 30,000 injured, with only 10% currently being treated at hospitals, leaving many in the cold.

Please donate anything you can to help these people out. Of course, the Red Cross has something set up to donate online, but I am sure there will be some sort of local effort in your area to help.

If you want to donate money to help out here you need to select the "International Response Fund" on the website form.

You can help those affected by the earthquake in Iran and countless other crises around the world each year by making a financial gift to the American Red Cross International Response Fund, which will provide immediate relief and long-term support through supplies, technical assistance, and other support to those in need. Call 1-800-HELP NOW or 1-800-257-7575 (Spanish). Contributions to the International Response Fund may be sent to your local American Red Cross chapter or to the American Red Cross International Response Fund, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, DC 20013. Internet users can make a secure online contribution by visiting www.redcross.org.

Hopefully this won't go to the media backburners, because this a huge tragedy. Needless to say, MSNBC's question of the day, "Given our history {referring to the US referring to Iran as part of the 'axis of evil' and Iran referring to the US as 'the great satan'}, should the US send earthquake relief to Iran?", looks to focus on the negative political ramifications of this whole ordeal.

When it comes to humanitarian relief, we should set our differences aside and just help those in need, especially at a huge tragedy like this. That question shouldn't even be asked. In fact, any aids by "opposing countries" can help to improve the relationships of both countries in the future.

Just think what a difference to the arab world's perception of the US it would make if you could provide clearly visible assistance to the relief effort over there.

Hearts & minds and all that.

One positive thing about disasters is that they get everyone thinking about the things that really matter.
