Your kinda right, it is true that the original thread was indeed all about attaching the image and not linking them but it wasn't for hosting issues it was for bandwidth isues. So people could choose what they were watching rather than have 3 dozen animated .gifs loading all at once, this didn't stop folks in the original thread though however, but yeah your quite right.
