Requirements for mapping?

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

If you're creating maps, all you really need to know is level design, which there are a billion UEd tutorials on the Web (I recommend Architectonic at PlanetUnreal), and the fantastic video tuts available on 3dBuzz.

Knowing modelling and programming and stuff like that will be important if you are designing a lot of custom content, but UEd is such that you can still create a halfway decent map just using the legos that came with the retail game.

The most important thing you need is PATIENCE. If you're expecting to pump out a bunch of good maps in a couple weeks, it's not going to happen. It can take weeks or even months (if you're creating all custom content) to design ONE nice map.
