Using PSP9 I can replace the tones on the assault rife to many colors but I want a black and white theme is there any app that will let me adjust stuff to white and dark easily?

In the GIMP it would be color->desaturate to achieve that effect. Surely PSP has that function? :)

Step 15 in this tutorial looks like it might be what you want:

http://www.corel.com/content/pdf/paintshop/tutorials/288colorize.pdf

If you want only black and white then GIMP color->Threshold will map an image to two chosen colours. (I know it's not PSP9 but it is free).

gimp blahh....I hate its messy GUI and layout....

Ya paint shop pro has 3 main kinds of color changing stuff, and 1 is via the paint brush.

jasc PSP is not bad, for me its easy to use and has enough features to be useful, wouldn't pay much for it (10$ max)far to buggy but a good lil app non the less.

never tried adobe and don't want to :p
I like to keep things simple....

guess I'll fire gimp up again...

Which version are you using?

The most recent (2.4.x) is a lot cleaner (but I agree, the GIMP is about as user- friendly as a cornered rat).

That said, it might just be a question of what we are used to.

I showed the GIMP and a couple of tutorials to my eleven year old daughter, went away for 30 minutes and when I came back she was using functions that I've never touched and to good effect. She didn't have a problem but there again she didn't know any better. :)

ah I'll give it a look later, trying to patch some loss data in my mod right now.

been experimenting with with both JPSP9 and gimp.

can't do this on gimp, its a color replacement brush only focuses on anything but black/white.

I can do this on both but tis not quite the green to white scheme was hoping for,do you know anyway for me to turn the colored tones to "white", as long as it changes the tones t a lighter than gray color I'd be happy with it.

mmmmm oooo hold on now looks like manaul color correction will do the trick but I have to freehand select the areas I want changed...mmmm can do green to black/dark, green to white is a problem but I can do gray to white.

would be nice if I could get the replace brush for this, ignore black and just fill in the huemap and grays, this dose not stack well so overlaping selections will be a issue and you can't freehand select the larger areas with ease...this will be...annoying...but very doable.

 just what i think about the gimp. i've given it several tries with different versions but i just can't stand the ui.
gimp would be great if it had a non broken up GUI I hate multi window apps I don't have a 40 inch screen to make use of them and they are nothing ore than clutter/annoyance to deal with them all.

Twin head monitors!

I do think that some of this is just a matter of getting used to it.

I use the GIMP quite a bit now and (especially with 2.4) I no longer find it so difficult to navigate around. Basically, I'm getting used to it. That said, I'm not a professional designer with a finely-honed workflow built around PS. My daughter - who isn't really used to other applications has adapted to it just fine.

So, not as bad as it used to be. :)

The other thing that should be noted about the GIMP is the excellent tutorial resources available. For a beginner, that can make a real difference. Of course, the high quality of the tutorial resources might just be because the GIMP is so difficult to use.:)

moving to using the DDS plug in so I can do textures right,I use PSP9 as my main paint program because its easy to use and I can do more on it,I need tuts/tricks and tips for handling textures on PSP and photoshop(yes I have the photoshop as a backup.)

Currently I am doing weapon textures and effect trails, my main question is is there a easy way to port a color scheme throughout ALL the pictures in a DDS file?
