Mesh Formats Imports Walruses

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

I'm posting this from a Mac, miles away from the nearest UnrealEd.exe, and I want to ask this.

Can UnrealEd import mesh formats like 3DS or OBJ into the editor?

If not, is there anything I can use to convert said whatevers to T3D?

Unrealed in UT2003 and UT2004 will import .ASE and .LWO formats. Unrealed in UT3 will import .ASE and .T3D formats. When I need to convert one format to another, I use a small program called Biturn, which you can find at this link:

It converts a large number of formats from one to another, and is very easy to use. I'm not sure if there's a version for the Mac though, you may have to google a bit to find something more suited for you.

Ah, in that case you need Meshmaker, a small program that converts .T3D files into .u files that can then be accessed under the Decoration class. There used to be a site made by the author where you could download it and also find a tutorial, but I can't find it anymore. However, the program itself is available at this link

Meshes in UT99 are not very advanced though, and anything more elaborate than a simple decoration, like a tree or a chair, will not give you good results. However, they can be very useful when you want to create many instances of small objects, like lamps, vegetation, stone blocks, etc,.

Best I could find is this:

You can use Biturn to convert .OBJ or .3DS to .ASE, then use the program at this link to convert to .T3D. Of course, all of these programs run on Windows, not Mac, which may complicates things. I hope all of this will be useful to you.

Excellent!

The Mac thing doesn't concern me, it's not as if I am stuck with it indefinitely.

Maybe I'll name a video game character after you...
