Editing your Demo's from UT....

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

no, you can't edit demos directly.

only way to do it (as far as i know) is to somehow grab your demo and make a movie of it, and edit this with a movie editor. or something like that. you'll need a very good computer and video card tho, and even then it will be a time consuming process.

Mr. Blonde, trying to make a movie of an UT demo is a pain in the ass, and hardly worth the effort if you ask me. besides, you'd need a much better video card to even begin trying. :) so i would forget about it if i were you. maybe Unreal2 will have demo editing features, but i wouldn't put my hopes on that.

There has been a link to a program that converts your demo to a movie in another thread.
Make a search on this forum and you will find it.

I posted it a while back, here it is again

1) Go to: http://www.techsmith.com/products/camtasia/camtasia.asp and
download Camtasia. This is a screen capture program that wil record
everything in a window to an AVI. Install it and read the brief pop up help
window for how to operate it (it's pretty easy).

2) In the "capture" menu, set the capture type to "window".

3) Go into the Options\Preferences\AVI screen and uncheck "Auto Configure"
and set the frames/sec to 15 (or so). Go into the Video Setup and select
your favorite video codec to encode with. I recommend the "Microsoft MPEG-4
Video Codec V2".

4) Start UT and hit ALT+ENTER to shrink it to a window.

5) Go into the video options for UT and set the resolution to 320X240.

6) Hit the record button in Camtasia once and it will alow you to select
which window to record. Click on the UT window.

7) Hit the '~' key to bring up the UT console and type "demoplay <name of
demo file>". Hit the '~' key again to close the console.

8) Hit ATL+TAB to switch the focus to any window other than the UT window.
This is important because, even though you can't see it now, the windows
pointer is in the middle of the UT window. If you skip this step, the
pointer will show up in the final AVI file.

9) Hit the record button in Camtasia again to begin recording.

10) When the demo is finished, hit the stop button in Camtasia. It will
prompt you for a name and location to save the AVI and then automatically
play it back for you.

If you want to further edit the AVI, Camtasia has a very basic editor also.
If you really want to do some editing (like croping, time compression,
etc.), use VirtualDub. You can pick that up at
http://www.geocities.com/virtualdub/ .

you may say that this is not hard, but I can't get it to work.
I have a newer version of it and it doesn't list a lot of the options you mentioned. Please help me!

blonde, no one is working on a demo editor, because no one knows the format.
Besides, if Epic was to release the format, they would also be releasing the code for all their networking. Yes, demos are actually saved net calls.

Hey, I know this is an old thread revitalized by another thread, but that link didn't work for me.

Does anyone know of a good capture screen app out there?

I noticed he said 320x240 and it sure would be nicer to double that, so if anyone knows an app that would capture windows or whole screens and make an AVI or mpeg please post a link or at least a name here.

Thanks! :)

Snagit 5 grabs divx vids of any size window you choose.

Whole choice of options - hi-res, low-res - multiple codecs - variable bit rates etc etc.

http://www.techsmith.com/products/snagit/default.asp

Ver 5.2 out now - free download trial.

If you all cast your memorys (search mode) back many a month..... you may remember a thread entitled "UT The Movie" - worked very successfully to capture at about 10meg for 3 min. Tweaking would get it further down.

Works very well - highly recommended.
