this is something i've often wondered about... most of Jesus' teachings could be called socialist: give to the poor, help those in need, an emphasis on keeping to the necessities of life. however, most religous people are right wing in their political beliefs: all for capitalism, no health care, a de-emphasis on social services, what i would call the opposite of Christ's teachings. what's your thoughts?

Marx refered to Christianity as a version of feudal socialism, because it often supported the rich and the powerful aristocrats being in power. That refers to the Christianity of today. Christianity used to a simple religion; Jesus' teachings primarily centered around having a simple, personal relationship with God, rather than relying on superstitious prayer rituals or a church. The Christianity of today is a form that has been corrupted by the power it gained in the Middle Ages.

Jesus' Christianity, I would say had socialist tendencies, but was not totally socialist.

As far as the modern Christianity, I will quote from the Communist Manifesto:

"In political practice, therefore, they [Feudal Socialists] join in all corrective measures against the working class; and in ordinary life, despite their high-falutin phrases, they stoop to pick up the golden apples dropped from the tree of industry, and to barter truth, love, and honour, for traffic in wool, beetroot-sugar, and potato spirits.

As the parson has ever gone hand in hand with the landlord, so has clerical socialism with feudal socialism.

Nothing is easier than to give Christian asceticism a socialist tinge. Has not Christianity declaimed against private property, against marriage, against the state? Has it not preached in the place of these, charity and poverty, celibacy and mortification of the flesh, monastic life and Mother Church? Christian socialism is but the holy water with which the priest consecrates the heart-burnings of the aristocrat."

for thaat very reason Nietzsche heaps socialists with the christians, both believe the same non-sence of worldwide equality (in theory at least). Both teachings can only really function in a backward society, both would have the same detrimental effect on mankind.

At a bible study we came upon this, it was funny because everybody wanted to ignore it because they're parents worship our government (none of us were over 17, and I was one of the few people there who dosen't beleive everything parents say, to them, whatever their parents say is the truth, that's annoying). After us reading a few verses from the bible I said "So God isn't democratic" I got some interesting looks from that.

god isn't (from the standpoint that god even exists), he is clearly superiour to all men, he is (supposedly) omniscient and omnimpresent and on top of that all men should do as he says or end up in hell, he sounds more like a dictator to me... my kind of guy.

At least we know where he stands on the right to bear arms: "And him who hath no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one." - Jesus Christ

Not that I'm aware of. Most of the anti's are hardcore liberals, which battle the christian right on just about everything as well...
