I´ve had my share of problems installing on the mac, my problem is now, that I dont know if I installed enough!
Ive installed: Infiltration 2.8
The mac installer

Do I have to install the mappack 2.8 too inorder to get it to work. And maybe other things?

Any help would really be appreciated!

PS. Thanks to the guy the posted tip about unzipping the maclauncher using ZipIT, instead of stuffit. :)

without the map pack...

You're really missing out on one of the things that makes inf great - the maps. It will improve your overall experience to have it. It will also let you practice with the weapons a little better since it has the Shooting Range.

Hope this helps.

a few posts down from here there's a thread titled "Install help... sorry but i need it"

not everything in there will apply to you(unless you too have the new mac nvidia) but try the things mentioned in there, specifically making sure you have the right .ini file and deleting iSolder.int file.

post back in this thread if problems remain

oh, and yes INF will work alone, but trust me, you'll want the map pack.

so deleteing iSoldier.int didn't work for you? i was really hoping that was it.

when you reinstalled UT it was a clean install? deleted the folder completely?

in your UT folder there will hopefully be a file called "INF28Log.log" i'm assuming it won't be to large since it isn't launching, could you post the contents or just email me the file?

and from what i've been able to find out about the Mac nVidia card, it supposedly does do Rave, but performs better ar OpenGL which isn't a selectable rendering option in the menu's, there are ways of manually editing the UT ini's to use OpenGL with the card but i'm not framiliar enough with the INF ini's to give instructions on that(yet). so for now i'd reccomend using the _S software rendering .ini(and be sure to rename it so the "_S" isn't there)

And I will try the full install UT, all over.

I got an ATI RAGE 128, 16.mb.

Ive found a file in textures called something with isoldier, i dont know if thats the one?

And read a guy talked something about a bonus pack, or rather two bonus packs, and they did it for him! Do you fellas have anything on that?
Thanks for all your help, Im really excited about playing the infiltration mod, and the whole enviroment backing up around the mod. :)

re: jakes problems

"iSoldier.int" is the file, if it's there, delete it.

don't forget to download the mac launcher, and uncompress it with zip it instead of stuffit.

with your video card you'll use the .ini file that ends with "_R", but be sure and rename it before starting up so the "_R" is gone, also, you'll put this file directly in your UT folder, not any subfolders.

and as far as the bonus packs, somebody else here reported that INF wouldn't work untill they installed the UT bonus packs, i have not experienced this issue on my Mac however.

also, if i remember correctly, the 2.80 install comes with the three different .ini files, _R, _G, and _S. but the one you'll want to rename and use will be packaged with the mac launcher you download separately.

rather than retype it, you can read about my system here in the "list your pc specs" thread going on in off-topic right now.

so you did all the above and still no go eh? it seems you and jimnjen are having the same problem, hrmm. i have yet to receive a log file from either of you "INF28Log.log" is what mine's called, it's jsut in the UT folder. but i fear that INF isn't even getting to the point of starting the log before exiting.

i was just going to suggest extention troubleshooting next, i run INF using a *very* minimal set. for now though, just try it while only running the "Mac OS - Base" set

when i get home tonight(i have to use NT at work, *blech*) i'm going to try running it w/all extentions off just to see if it'll run, i'm not sure if it'll work or if it'll require Quickdraw, InputSprockets, etc. but i'll post my results here so that if i get it to work, then you can try w/all extentions off. then if it still doesn't work we'll know for sure the problem isn't extentions.

UT Patch

I know you downloaded all the stuff for INF but you never said weather or not you patched UT. UT has to be at version 425a or higher on the Mac to run UT. 436 is the current version and it works great on my rig. I forgot the patch UT when I installed it at work to show a friend up until the last minute. I did remember at the last minute but it's a simple oversight to make.

As for an extension messing with it. I play INF fine and don't use a different extention set. The only real drawback with the extentions is that they take up RAM but I have 288 so it's really not a problem.

In any event make sure that you patch UT to at least 425a. I would do it first but I doubt it would really make a difference. Seeing as INF doesn't really mess with the application it's self or the app files. Just adds new ones.

in the other thread jimnjen did patch to 436 after reinstalling.

anyway, as far as my extentions test. INF ran fine with extentions off, so my next suggestion to the both of you is to try that just so we know that isn't it. and i don't mean just turning them all off in extentions manager(as that will actually leave quite a few still loading) but the whole holding down "Shift" while booting thing.

try that, if it still fails send me/post your log files!

Thank God!

I started over, and did a full install with UT, went through the
2.8
map
2.81
2.82..... and all that, and it WORKED!
BA B....the reason I didn't send any info for the last few days is because I got discuraged. then when I saw another mac guy with the same problem, I got back in the game, and here I am. And just so ya know, I also put in a few extra bonus map packs, but I am not sure if that had anything to do with my major victory :) It might have, because without the full install, there is not a map folder, and with out the map folder, I was not able to install the map packs, so who knows. I hope this helps all you mac people. GO Apple! :p

So did you install the full version from the cd, or just the standard? I wonder if that made the difference? Good luck Jake :D

Good for you jimjen

I patched the files all right, up to 436. I even tried to patch up to 425a, thinking something was wrong with the patch. Didnt work.
Tried all extensions off. Didnt work. I got a bit discouraged but that Jimjen prevailed has given me the energy to go on.

I think that I willl try to install the bonuspacks!

Which bonuspacks did you install Jimjen!

To BA B. I did a full install.So...
And thanks to all you guys for helping me out, ya really great! I WANT THIS F***ING MOD TO WORK! :D

Extensions

While shutting off all your extensions by holding down **** is a good way to test it. You will need to make an extension set for certain things. LIke TCP/IP, Remote Access (if you have a modem) Video drivers (to enable HW acceleration) and a few other. The networking stuff is not important now but will be when 2.85 comes out.

I guess what I'm saying is you may want to just go straight to the extensions manager now seeing as it really wont make sense to try and run UT/INF with out certain extentions on. I would suggest turning on the Apple default plus, if you have a non OEM video card, the drivers for that.

Also does regular UT run. If it does then the problem is with your INF install and probably not with extentions in you System folder.

One last thing. I have found the using the PC UMOD for 2.80 and the deleting the "iSoldier.int"file seems to work. You may want to try it as an option. Also when you do install I would suggest doing 2.80, then the map pack, then 2.81 and finally 2.82. This is because 2.81 replaces the firing range with a new one and if you do the map pack last you'll be stuck with the old fireing range. And the new one is much better. Especially in the rifle range. The buttons are much easier to get to, to bring the target in.

extentions again

the set i normally run with is just as you described, network stuff, graphics stuff, input sprockets. however, for my test i tried with *all* extentions off and it did indeed run. to be quite honest i was surprised as i didnt' expect it to.

i would assume that UT runs for jake as it did for jimnjen, but when launching INF i'm not even sure they're getting to the point where it starts up UT.

and hence i thought perhaps there's some weird 3rd party extention installed that's only affecting the INF launcher.

a long shot i agree, but if you read through the things we've done in this thread and the previous one "install help...sorry but i need it" then there isn't much more i could suggest with the information available to me.

anyway, i'm very curious about this bonus pack thing. it's now been reported by two people that INF wouldn't work untill they were installed(although in jimnjen's case he did do a full reinstall along the way so we can't rule that out as the fix, although a previous full reinstall was performed and had no effect). yet, INF works on my Mac with none of the bonus packs installed. curious indeed.

Have you run UT before installing INF

Jake,
I just thought of some thing. When you first run UT it generates the User.ini file that denotes the Graphics settings and some other things. I think I remember in one of my reinstalls that I did to just clean out Strike Force INF gave me no end of problems. I finally installed UT and ran it first. Even before I patched it. Just to see what happend. Then I patched it and ran it. Then I installed INF and ran it then Patched INF. You get the Idea. I wonder if maybe you have not run UT. Or maybe you ran it then patched it and didn't run it again.

After patching UT it asks you to tell it again what type of video hardware your using. Try that and let us know.

I think BA and I are on a mission at this point. Also if you have or have not sent out the log file. I'd like to get one as well. But not just the INF one. I'd also like a copy of the standard UT from the last time you ran it.
