Simply buy the one that is released first.

An obvious difference is that UT2 won't have a classic singleplayer story.

It is my impression that the difference in multiplayer will be that the style is slightly different:

- UT2 will be more pure and simple FPS (UT/Quake style)
- U2 will be more complex and strategic (Tribes/TFC style)

My guess is that UT2 will be the game of choice for the deathmatchers while those who prefer teamplay will play U2.

Well thats not the impression I have gotten, tho you always know what you are talking about :)

My impression was that UT2s MP would be less spammable, more suited for hardcore gamers and not at all less teamplay oriented than UT (if that was what you said).

U2s MP is, again my impression, going to be a easier entrance to MP gaming for n00bs than UT2, hence not at all that complex. Or rather that U2s DM and CTF might be more n00b friendly though other modes in U2 MP will be complex?

What I do know is that U2s focus and most important aspect is SP and I therefore dont expect that much from its MP.
On the other hand U2 and UT2 will be released rather close in time and if U2 and UT2s MP doesnt differ in quite some ways, the sale of the latter will suffer due to the formers expected l337ness.

Unreal Year in Preview

doesnt anyone read my stuff :) ??

I think U2's MP will be very similar to what we have grown accustomed to in UT. I think it will chiefly, multiplayer wise, be an upgrade via the engine. They haven't released a lot of details about it, because they're really selling up the single-player aspect, which we should all hope rocks hard.

There's supposed some new class-based stuff, and changes to the basic gametypes.

UT2 is going to be really changing the rules. No pickups, more squad based, characters with abilities. It's going to be incorporating aspects of RPG style play as well a squad-tactical. Put this into a "tournament" framework, where you are building up a team for competition, and I think this will be a serious "Sequel" to the game we've all grown to love.

UT2 should feel very familiar to UT fans. Many of the weapons will return (moreso than U2), and the focus will be on fast action.

Another significant difference is that the translocator will appear in UT2, while U2 will use the grapple.

When reviews start coming out, read them. They are a lot more reliable than the guesses/rumors/bs in the above posts.

I read the Previews. I read lots of them and I read them very thoroughly(sp?), and based on that came to the a.m. impression.

It's all true. Unreal II's MP will be simpler and more complicated!

I expect the DM and CTF to use the same concepts as the original, because I don't think Legend could really give a toss about them.

But the XMP will be an attempt to bring brain-strain, a la WoT citadel, to the masses (not just intellyjent peepul liek mee ;) :B).

Or you could read all the interviews and news posted by Epic and Legend and compile them into a summary...

ROTFLMAOLOLRORLAHAHA

Are saying you know what the games will be like? I don't mind speculating, but don't talk like you know everything about a game you've never even seen.

I'm not talking about your post tetris.

Things I wrote in the preview did not come out of my head, they came from FAQ's (including Tetris'), interviews, or previews by Legend, Epic, DE or sources who have seen early build of the games, and where it was speculation or estimation, I made it clear that's what it was.

If there are specific parts you question about it, why don't you bring those up instead of assuming I'm just conjuring things out of things out of thin air? I'm not saying I know everything about the games, nobody is. I'm just offering my impression after doing the research.

And the slew of recent UT2 Previews that have been around. Including one in German.

And btw, Pancho's interview mentions that UT2 will be less "spammy".

Have you actually read RegularX's stuff?

If so maybe it would be better if you say what it is you are questioning that you wont/didnt find in any other U2/UT2 preview.

If your last post was a joke please forgive me but you didnt put any smilies in it so I guess it's not.

Well, sorry - the DNA tests didn't seem to attach correctly

Anyway, let's get back on topic here.

Can we all dish out what we know about the expanded gametype (looks over in Tetris' direction). It's something that the previews seem to be glossing over, and I assume might be the basis of U2 having a more complex. That gamespy preview said "In the new expanded system, there will be class-based player teams that will fight for control of planet surfaces and alien artifacts using nanotechnology replicators to build more sophisticated weapons such as automated gun turrets, force fields, sensors and more."

But that's all kinda vague. Nanotech replicators? You could almost read it as part RTS (fighting for resources) or kinda Tribeish (bases with resources), but it definately sounds like this huge part of the game that seems to get glossed over a lot in previews (mayhap it's not done yet?)
