Has anyone else realized that the "Gunner" doesn't actually have a gun? He should really be called "Heavy Weps" or some such.

Rangers have a rifle and a pistol, Tech's got a machine gun and and a shotgun, Gunner? A rocket Launcher and a flame thrower, weapons yes, but not exactly guns. How ironic.

I think the "Heavy Weps" class's first weapon should be a nice chain gun (a la Doom - doin' the Chaingun cha cha) A gun with a high rate of fire, the only thing close to that is the Tech's assault rifle and the Tech's deployable auto-turrent.

Still waiting for a mutator that would replace the flamethrower with a minigun. Balancing would take a bit of work, but I never really liked the flamethrower for more then eye candy.

The gunner has no hitscan weapons for a reason, ala .. no chaingun. I've no doubt it would screw the balance if the gunner were given a hitscan weapon.

The gunner is a short range guy with lots of armor.

Like it or not that's the way its balanced.

Giving him a ranged hitscan weapon would buff him vs Rangers, which is supposed to be his ideal predator.

The tech MG is really about as powerful as you could go with a rapid fire weapon before breaking the trumping mechanics.

not if the said chaingun was extremely inaccurate at anything further than medium range... perhaps not 'realistic' but would maintain the short-range specialism of the gunner and keep a lot of people, including myself, happy

I think you underestimate the range fo the tech AR. Both it and the shotty reach farther than one might think.

Not as far away as a rocket tho.

no doubt, the shotgun's range can be quite suprising at times....

however maybe its just me but I feel a little naked with the gunner's weapons... i find the RL's refire rate is too slow and the flamethrower lacks finesse (ie i can barely see whats going on when i'm firing it, and you have to be right in their face to have an effect)...

dont get me wrong, I like both weapons and would want to see neither removed, but an extra chain gun would have been the icing on the cake so to speak

The rocket launcher works fine the reload rate isn't that much of a handy cap. It really only takes 2-3 splash shots to kill your target and if you are in a corridor its easy to hit your target dead on with it, and thats fatal. The rocket launcher is also probably the best vehicle killer.

I do agree that the flame thrower makes it hard to see what you are doing, but its fun none the less.

I guess my problem is that my first rocket laucher experience was on UT....

ah instant fire rockets.... or even better...6-rocket spam...

imagine if gunners COULD fire 6 rockets simulataneously... you wouldnt hear them complaining about gas spam!

WOW! that truly shows american ignorance GJ .. or maybe you are confronted with your own sexual preference .. dont worry im sure its just a stage . you will like the oppisite sex someday .. people like you make America sound like a bad place .. and i have alot of American friends online/offline and they wouldnt side with you in the least little bit. .. but i cant damn a nation for the stupidity of one person, and its very obvious that my shoe size exceeds your total intelligence

AS: for the topic at hand a chaingun would be something TOTALY sweet! but lets face it nothing beats the flamethrower for close encounters (node room)

While a chaingun would no doubt be "totally sweet", I believe that there is a specific reason the gunner has no hitscan weapons, and the tech having the only automatic hitscan weapon is no accident. I strongly believe it would mess up the balance of the game.

If you live and die by only the flamer and rox then yeah you might feel a bit underpowered. But ignoring your grenades is a great disservice to your power. Between these three and the mines, gunners have pwn3d me pretty hard some days.

 Word.

In the few cases I play a gunner, I LOVE the flame thrower. Why? Right-click it and find out. :D I spray that sh*t all over my teams's artifact node and sit back and wait. As soon anyone tries to steal my stuff, instant BBQ.

yeah that napalm thing kinda confuses me... I've walked in and out of that stuff with seemingly no damage..... does it only work if you leave your shoes at the spawn point or something? :p
