I think UT is a fine game, but I must voice
my consternation with ONE thing:

I will NOT, repeat NOT buy a UT CD for each
of the four computers on my LAN. If GT
or Epic don't release a patch to make LAN
games possible with one CD, I'm going to take
the UT CD back to the store and buy HL:
Opposing Force instead.

Even Half-Life, with its horrid CD key scheme,
lets you play on up to 5 machines of a LAN with
a single cd-key. You cannot expect casual
players who don't even have their own computers
to go out and buy their own copy of the game
just so they can come over to your house once
in a while to play on your LAN. Because,
guess what? They won't do it!

Forget the thing about taking the CD out after
starting each game & putting
it in the next machine. The whole !#@$! arrangement
freezes up when the level change comes around. I tried it.
How perfectly ANNOYING.

I am about to try the CD crack from megagames.
Even if it works (I'm told it does), I
should not HAVE to use a crack. They should
have thought of this before they released
UT.

end of rant. Thanks for listening.

Man, no kidding. I hate having to whip out the CD each time anyway, (I have kids, I always have to get the JumpStart Kindergarden or whatever out, and put mine in.) Also, I wanna be able to play one on one like every other game on lan. (Half-Life, Unreal with patch, yada yada...)

I, also should not have to resort to cracks to play this game on lan occasionally. (In my own house for cryin out loud!!!)

You believe this is called "stealing"?
What are you talking about???

Please clarify.

So far, every 3D shooter I've bought has
allowed LAN games to be played without
having to go out and buy a separate CD for
each machine on the LAN. If you don't know
that, you must be new to gaming... or else
your post was just a troll.

If a company decides to make it so LANs must
have one CD per machine, that's the day most
of us LAN players will stop buying their
products. You can debate all you want, but
our money will go elsewhere.

I am not taking any sides in this debate....I know about halflife and others not needing the cd for a lan game. I do believe the makers know how these games are used on a lan....I totally agree with that, I did however buy two cd's one for me and one for my 10 year olds computer...call me stupid.....I find this please insert cd very annoying also!!! I guess the licence does say install on one computer per copy of UT..I guess I am a model citizen along with being stupid for paying for a game twice to use it on a lan
P.S. It could also be that I got greedy when I saw it in the store and bought the last two copies so that punk waiting on me to put one down so he could buy it could not have the game also /~unreal/ubb/html/wink.gif I hope he had to wait another week to get it /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif
