I think you'll be hard pressed to find a bigger Portal fan than me so it's only natural that I wanted to work on the PortalGun.

The other versions of the PortalGun can easily crash servers and cause lots of instability when used. This version has all those problems fixed.

Usage and summon instructions in the readme. Have fun!

I've gotten several emails, so let me answer these questions that came up:

There is no distance limit between portals.
You can only have two portals per person in the map.
Yes, the portals can touch each other now.
No, bots cannot use the portals.
No, projectiles do not pass through them now. (Yes, I'm sad too. Hit the v2 with a guided deemer though and watch how fast your server crashes)

I thought the original PortalGun-mod and v2 where created by BlackCheetah, or am I wrong?

I have no idea. I've not seen a release package nor is there anything in the code. It wasn't my intention to take his work without asking if that is true, I simply wanted a PortalGun that wasn't able to crash the server at will.

There were two weapon textures in it, one black and one white. I just liked the white better. I'll update the package with proper credits this evening. Thanks for linking me.

The old portals use wet textures. I read about instability of the wet textures and replaced them, though Ferali informed me they were indeed fine to use. I had already posted the mod by then. I was thinking about creating a dynamic camera view to use in them but I'm not sure it's possible.

I downloaded it and shall try soon. I had the v2 version, and it was fun to kill Monsters with it teleporting them into the hell on LavaGiant map (playing MonsterMadness 'UsAgainstThem'), but the weapon crashed my game about in a two minutes time.

Some remarks:

1. It tends to crash game, but yet not so often. With ten or more bots, I can use it for about an half an our, instead of few minutes (what was the average length of run for v2).
2. You can't use it to teleport other pawns anymore. The new v3 portal gun can teleport yourself only. Damn :(
3. The portals seems to deactivate themselves after a (not too long) time. Or do it sometimes. Am I right? This is quite embarassing, anyway.
4. There is a weird, but interesting and sometimes useful phenomenon with bots, are they think the gun's portals to be a waypoint? If you shot a portal near to them, they will rally around it (as it doesn't teleport any pawns but you, nothing else happens). This can be used for directing a bigger number of bots into a location quite quick.

There were some serious problems discovered with the portal gun that version 3 fixed. If you are going to play offline then v2 is more "portal". However if you run a server don't use anything but v3 or your players can hard-crash the server at will if they know how (and many MH players do).

The portals in v3 use the standard mesh because I could not extract the wet texture portal from v2 without the source. Since making v3 I have learned that BlackCheetah was the original maker of the gun. If you want to contact him and get me permission as well as the needed source file (he'll know which one you mean) I'll remake it properly. I released v3 as an emergency fix for the server crashing not meaning to work on something without permission but there was no readme and no code credits. Now that I know whose work it is, I won't do more without his OK. I'm a huge Portal fan and it would be my honor to do the gun right. I think I can even get around the crashing and restore the other actors passing through the portal.

BTW the bots will rally around the portal because it creates a spot of interest for them. Most MH maps have no pathing so they will stay close to the portal because it is the only pathnode-type actor in their sight.
