General Protection Fault...

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

These things are starting to annoy me. For several different maps, and now a mod, I get a message saying "General Protection Fault!" This one is from the "Ashura: Dark Reign" Tech demo:

UT2004 Build UT2004_Build_[2004-09-02_05.02]

OS: Windows NT 6.0 (Build: 6000)
CPU: AuthenticAMD Unknown processor @ 2004 MHz with 2045MB RAM
Video: 256MB ATI Radeon X1300PRO (449)

General protection fault!

History: UObject::processEvent <- (PawnSonic ADR-DemoMap.PawnSonic, Function AshuraDarkReign.ADRPawn.PostNetBeginPlay) <- ULevel::SpawnActor <- (PawnSonic) <- UObject::processEvent <- (ADRGameDemo ADR-DemoMap.ADRGameDemo, Function ADRGame.ADRGameDemo.PostLogin) <- ULevel::SpawnPlayActor <- MatchViewportsToActors <- (ADR-DemoMap) <- ClientInit <- UGameEngine::LoadMap <- LocalMapURL <- UGameEngine:: Browse <- ClientTravel <- UGameEngine::Tick <- Level North Island <- UpdateWorld <- MainLoop <- FMallocWindows::Free <- FMallocWindows::Realloc <- 676F4C57 0 FArray <- FArray::Realloc <- 0*2 <- FMallocWindows::Free
I have gotten similar messages from the map OSM-Nocturne2, and the first map for the OSM campaign "Use Of Weapons," and probably more that I can't remember. Who do I have to hire around here for "protection"?:lol: Help and explanations greatly appreciated.

You could post some more to see if they're related. Now it only seems that "PawnSonic" is doing something that crashes the game, but that message could mean kinda anything.

At GreatEmerald's request, here are logs from OSM-Nocturne2:
UT2004 Build UT2004_Build_[2004-09-02_05.02]

And from OSM-UseOfWeapons-Level1:
UT2004 Build UT2004_Build_[2004-09-02_05.02]

OS: Windows NT 6.0 (Build: 6000)
CPU: AuthenticAMD Unknown processor @ 2005 MHz with 2045MB RAM
Video: 256MB ATI Radeon X1300PRO (449)

Assertion failed: GIsEditor || GetSuperClass() || this==UObject::StaticClass() [File:.\UnClass.cpp] [Line: 881]

History: UClass::Bind <- (Class OSM-UseOfWeapons-Level1.PlayerUseTrigger0) <- ULinkerLoad::CreateExport <- (PlayerUseTrigger0 138191) <- IndexToObject <- ULinkerLoad<<UObject <- (LinkerLoad Package.LinkerLoad 138191)) <- ULevelBase::Serialize <- ULevel::Serialize <- LoadObject <- (Level OSM-UseOfWeapons-Level1.myLevel 138191==138191/18526450 134294 4099) <- ULinkerLoad::preload <- PreLoadObjects <- UObject::EndLoad <- UObject::StaticLoadObject <- (Engine.Level None.MyLevel OSM-UseOfWeapons-Level1) <- LoadLevel <- UGameEngine::LoadMap <- LocalMapURL <- UGameEngine::Browse <- ClientTravel <- UGameEngine::Tick <- UpdateWorld <- MainLoop <- FMallocWindows::Free <- FMallocWindows::Realloc <- 676F4C57 0 FArray <- FArray::Realloc <- 0*2 <- FMallocWindows::Free
I've noticed now, all of my problems involve maps or mods that use OSMT. I'm fairly certain that I have the latest version of UT2004, but I shall download it when I'm not on a dial-up computer later. I think I will download the newest OSMT set now, though, and see if that helps. Also, other OSM maps work, like the first Nocturne and Gauntlet, so my problem isn't OSM in general.

The first error is not related to the later two, but those two are related to each other. It seems that in the OSM maps the function GetSuperClass() was not used properly so it crashes on load. Or maybe that function doesn't even exist, don't know much about UScript. So try updating OSM and UT2004 as well as paste your UT2004.log to http://www.pastebin.com after the error to see what really happened.

how much ram do you have?

also run memtest86 in the meantime for at least an hour or two if you get any errors thats your problem.
