I hate to sound stupid but what was the artifact hunting defined in the patch? is it just hanging around the node while being in the same room?

People were taking artifacts and "hiding" places in the map with it, preventing anyone from winning.

and now, if you get an arti, and 2 minutes has passed, then you'll show up in everyone's radar :D

ah i see now....after the 2 mintues is up you your location regardless of where you are is revealed. Hmmm, I have mixed feelings about that. Have the fun was trying to sneak your way back to you node, always worried that the artifact glow would give you away.

Well 2 minutes is the default, the server admin can set it to be different.

Does the two minutes count if your team doesn't have enough energy to cap in the first place? I don't think your location should be revealed if you don't have enough energy to cap in the first place. However, if someone can cap, but is hiding -- deliberating tieing the game, then this fix is a great addition.

It counts since the arti leaves the node....so better you get energy in less than 2' when have and arti.

Yeah, we don't want a team that doesn't have enough energy to capture an artifact (because they are suckaz and haven't bothered hacking energy sources) to be able to prevent the other team from winning by hiding with the last artifact. I think that in a reasonable play style this shouldn't affect people too much, but it's _very_ effective at stopping people from bringing the game to a halt.

Hmmm, i guess I agree, but more than 2 minutes please, at least 5. I know that when I grab an artifact admist, or just escaping an intense fire fight. I like sneak my way out. Wait a moment for the fire fight to die down/move on before i make my break for the home node.

It doesn't make you explode or anything, it just shows you on the radar. :) They still have to catch you, fight you, kill you, and grab it... You can still evade enemies once it is on - however, we had known since day one that the game could be brought to a halt by a player simply finding a hiding spot and riding out the clock (because they fear losing, or just because they're a jerk)... We hoped that in practice it was difficult to hide and in extreme cases, voting would be an option, but we'd always wanted to find time to fix it in a more general manner - so we did.

Evading is a valid tactic if you're trying to avoid losing an artifact or need to buy time for energy, but in such a situation you should rely on your teammates for protection or your own skill to save you - two minutes is a long time.

If you're simply trying to be a jerk and exploit a hiding spot you've found in the map to ruin the game for everyone, well, the idea of you moving and having the support of your team probably don't apply.

This works well in practice, and it tends to encourage teamplay if you're in a tight spot waiting for energy or defending the last artifact. It adds to the tension when you're playing legitimately, as well as removes the exploit that ruins everyone's fun.

The time limit is of course configurable on the server, but we found two minutes was a good amount of time in usual gameplay situations...

2', imo is more than rasonable to get energy back(remember, one of the objetives is to keep your arti node online). If your team cant keep the arti online, then you shouldnt have the arti :p

Ah, the X minutes are configurables by the server admin.

Eh. That's why you can win with hacking all energy gens. Camping is silly, but makes sense if the nod isn't active.

BTW hello.

"I do agree with you guys. I hope i didn't come across as a whiner."
Not at all, and it's cool if you didn't agree with us too. We just want to make sure everyone understands what we were aiming for and what exactly the changes do (and that the time is server-configurable) Finally, I just want to mention that we did this specifically to piss off LE_Robert, as he enjoys hiding with an artifact.
