Looks like they are released almost simultaneously... As I understand: Unreal 2 = good single player, not so good online.
UT 2 = no single player of any significance because made for online gaming. First thought: I'll buy UT 2 first since I never even played Unreal and prefer online gaming anyway, but I guess it all depends on the demo's.

edit: typo

Actually U2 looks to have quite a good online package and even a new gametype (XMP). And UT2 has a fairly extensive single-player ladder game.... go figure... :o

I love both Unreal 1 and UT so I'm gonna buy both.
Which I buy first depends on which of them are released first.

I am more into the multiplayer so if they came out at the same time I think I would buy Unreal Tournament 2. Unreal 2 looks good but I am not really into the XMP type multiplayer. Plus I can't wait to start a revolution when UT2 comes out. /me has big plans ;) some of which involve a new (very specialized) Unreal site. I might drop more hints later :B

Hi Crakie,

My bet is on UT2, but we'll buy U2 as well... should be good... U2 because you will be waiting for a new U game since a long time ago, and UT2 becuase it will rock like nothing else! :)

Unreal Warfare is over 2 years away- Unreal Tournament 2 is the game now...

Whichever comes out first :D.

In the end I'll end up playing whichever game I like better more. And from this point there's no way to tell that. XMP is lookin pretty fun.....

But if they came out at the exact same time which one would you grab first? ;)

What a great time to be a gamer.

Im going to get both of them U2 and UT2. I think U2 will come out before UT2.
U2= Spring or beginning of summer (U.S. seasons)
UT2= Sometime during the summer or early fall (U.S. seasons)

If they came out on exactly the same date, I would buy them both on exactly the same time. I would also have bought another puter so I could play them at exactly the same time too :D
As they wont ship at the same time I'll buy wichever comes first first, that means the very moment the game reaches the shelves in Norway :D

I don't know, that equation makes it more of a Unreal Tournament 1 and 1/2 to me. :hmm:

I guess I'm expecting a bit much, though.

Just a question but, out of all the people that are buying it: do you play to win or play for fun or both ?

I would be expecting a lot more if I felt that it wasn't a console port. Of course, DE can prove my guess wrong by releasing an awesome game.

I'm really excited about the weapon combos and special moves. I'm very confident in their (and Epic's) code upgrades. I think where they will have to prove themselves is in the mapping department. Can they carry an entire game with 30 strong maps?

I think it will be very slick, and have more of an arcade feel/look to it. I'm not sure if that's what people are looking for in a PC game though.

We'll see! :D

SUNRISE: I play for fun, but I love to win. :) I'm more of a team game player and I like to fill the needed role for the team.

I'll propably get both but my problem is the multiplay conflict. I mean the single player of both games won't interfere cause U2 has a stroy line and plot while UT2 is like UT single player basicly bot matches and trying to be the best team. However when it comes to the multiplay people will wonder do I want to play U2 multy or UT2 multy since both have weapons that are similar and there could be similar game modes like CTF in U2 and CTF in UT2. I know they'll have different maps from one another. Now U2 does have XMP which may make some people pick it for specialized team play but then you also have UT2 with team play. Makes it difficult to choose just based on multiplayer. If the games were spread out more time wise there would be less conflict but they're almost right on top each other, oh well.

From what I have seen I have no doubt that the maps will be a monstrous improvement. The screenshots attest to that.

I wouldn't worry about the port issue-if that is what is going to happen. Im interesting to see how the gameplay of UT2 compares to UT. From the video it looks the same as UT in terms of combat but with more offensive and defensive moves.

Eh how do you mean sunrise? Playing UT for fun or to win right? Can't play ut2 yet ;)

For fun :) feck winning.. having fun is the most important thing to me.

Well I'll have the same problem.

Playing UT2 or U2 MP???

---> Well, I think I'll play U2 MP cuz it'll have a pickup system and not like UT2 a last-man-standing-like weapon system.

U2, because it has true singleplayer. No more botmatch-ladders on the same old maplist. And, U2s mp doesn't look so bad.

From the movies of Unreal 2 DM and CTF ive seen it looks more like the original UT than UT does. Maybe im wrong but it even had the same flags and health packs!
TBH UT2 looks pretty crap from the perspective of a hardcore gamer, it will probably end up like tribes 2 and last a few weeks.
U2 will be chosen by the competitive community i have no doubt in this.
That said I seriously i mean SERIOUSLY doubt UT2 will come out before the end of 2002 due to the XBOX lameness.

Melt the whole point of UT2 for the PC has something to do w/ the XBOX online capablities coming out late-like at the end of the year.

U2 s/b a nice surprise for me plus I have never played the first Unreal. Im also looking frwd to UT2.

UW being developed by Epic Games is due out in another 1-2 yrs per PC Gamer interview.

J. Speed, please do yourself a huge favor and pick up Unreal Gold. I'm guessing its around $5-$10 now. It will be worth far more than that.

Tribes2 came out in March 2001, and the Tribes2 World Championships are taking place next month.

So, how long is "a few weeks"?

I also think that UT2 will be "ein Schuss in den Ofen" as we Germans say... :D
