One specific "prefab" will only be loaded into the memory once, no matter how many copies of it you place in the map. That's how they get the high poly-counts.

And i thought the original UnrealEd was newbie friendly.

Quiet you ;)
:p Quake is all about shooting and metal/gothic environments. Do you honestly think q4 will be any different?? HA! :)
Q4=Q2, but it'll look nicer :D
Q2=DOOM2, but it looked nicer :D

Quiet you all!

Doom 2 was one of the best single player FPS ever made. You can't say that with regards to Quake 1 (dissapointment), Quake 2 (dissapointment 2) or Quake 3 (dissapointment squared). Quake 3 was so bad, I wouldn't believe it. No imagination, no good maps, nothing!

So don't say Doom2=Q2=Q4!!!

And prefabs loaded into memory once- thats how they did games 10 years ago. And you must apply many more tricks as well to make games run faster- believe me.

One thing I agree - Quakes are all the same.

Doom2=Q2=Q4 ;)

Hell I've been playing the game D2 since late 95 ;)
I should know right :)?

Q2 and D2 have 17-18 things in common if I'm not mistaking.
Q2 wasn't a dissapointment :confused:
and yeah doom2 still ownz ;)

Doom2 = crap. Wolfenstein3d had SO much better gameplay than that.

this is all great news!!
tanx so much for the scans :cool:

the only thing i dont like so far is seeing the release dates on UT2 and Unreal2 so close together...
hopefully that will change, but i look forward to both!
it will be intresting to me to see just how different the games feel from UT which is really the only game i ever 'got used to'... :)

It looks cool, I just hope that the learning curve isn't too hard or I'll just go back to UT. I realize this is more of a single player thingy, but online gaming is just soooo much more fun.

And why can't they just give me all the characters to play to begin with. I hate having to UNLOCK things.:mad:

the idea of prefab's is a great one. there are a lot of players out there with ideas for maps that find unrealed impossible :)

These weapons seem awfully familiar to UT...I like new imaginative weapons :)

I don't think they'll limit it to these weapons... I think more are probably going to be included but are kept under wraps for now...

The only thing wrong with anything about UT is the fact I have to save money to upgrade for it >_< I won't have enough money until september, and the game comes out in June. Anyone know any quick ways to get cash (legality doesn't matter) altough I am opposed to slinging crack. . . . ahh what the hell I'll even do that for UT2.

/me echoes Sunris's semtiments.

I won't have money to spen don upgrading m vid card until bou tNovember.

I'm reasonably happy with my P111 1gig, but my Matrox g400, as good as it is with UT, it's not going to hack U2 or UT2. No way.

AFAIK prefabs are several brushes grouped together to form a segement of a corridor, for example. They're lit and can probably have particle generators and path nodes as well (although that's a guess)

Static meshes (aka hardware brushes) works like you said they do though.

Making stuff using DE's prefabs is very "newbie friendly", but making 100% original content is alot more demanding than with ued 2.0 ... but then, you can do a whole lot more now.
