The GOLDIKE Project, the demos

A while ago, No Soup For You started a thread entitled 'The GODLIKE Project', here's part of the the original post :

This is an invitation / request to all those who claim to have beat the single player game on Godlike. I would like to invite you to do it again and record demos of all the DM levels starting at about Koo's Galleon or whatever that freakin boat is called.

We can store the demos and make them available to the less than Godlike as a tutorial. I of course cannot contribute because I have been stuck on Koo's Galleon for months wtf is with those bots! It really makes me angry sometimes the way that they cheat.

Anyway, bring on the demos for the DM levels of the single player on Godlike. I finished CTF, Dom, and Assault without much problem on Godlike but I think the DM levels probably give a lot of people problems. So how about it? This is my one goal in life now - to beat UT on Godlike before U2 comes out.

The thread has grown a little big, so I start another one for the demos. I have set up an account on the internet to host my own demos and I have some room left, so others can send me their demos too. Drop me an e-mail here if you are interested : lily42@free.fr (and then wait a few days, I can't read that box yet :) ). PCB, NSFY ?

My own demos

Ok, here are the demos I made some time ago. I'm not exactly 1337, so don't expect too much though (but at least, I have beat the bastards ). Also, I have kept the best demos only, my usual games against the bots were worse than that :D

Oblivion - 10/1 (frags/deaths)
Easy 1vs1, small map, ton of health around. Don't let blake have the flak cannon, kill the bastard before he can get to a weapon, and repeat ten times.

Demo : http://lily42.free.fr/TGP/Lily/Oblivion.zip

Stalwart - 10/0 :

Small map again, two bots, not too hard. If you are unlucky and spawn badly, the bots are going to walk all over you. If you are lucky enough to spawn first near the pulse gun, open the nearby crate with the impact hammer and take the keg o' health inside. In any case, there's plenty of health packs and vials on the map, the thigh pads, and the armor, so dying should not be an issue once you've got a weapon.

Demo : http://Lily42.free.fr/TGP/Lily/Stalwart.zip

Fractal - 15/0 :

Another easy 1vs1. Stay on the upper floor, and spam rockets from there. Watch the bot, if it tries to make it to your floor, send a cluster of rockets on the arrival. The shield belt is not worth the trouble if you ask me.

Demo : http://Lily42.free.fr/TGP/Lily/Fractal.zip

Turbine - 15/0 :

First difficult map. The place is tight, and there are four bots. Camping at the armor is the most easiest way. There's health around, some rocket packs, and you've got a safe view of the corridors around. Don't just wait for the bots though, go get a few frags around, retreat, heal, and repeat. I haven't really tried but I think that the shield belt is easy to include into your arsenal. Oh, and you don't need to hammer jump to the invisibility :)

Demo : http://Lily42.free.fr/TGP/Lily/turbine.zip

The codex of wisdom - 15/3 :

Not too hard. Camp the armor a bit, take the shock rifle, pulse gun and minigun away, that should help a bit if the bots can't have them.

Demo : http://Lily42.free.fr/TGP/Lily/Codex.zip

Pressure :

Never been good on that map, beside, it crashes my computer, so I have no demo of this one. The bots are easy to trap into the pressure chamber, so go for the cheap frags.

Grinder - 20/4 :

The damage amplifier, along with the pulse gun and armor below are your friends. There's plenty of health on the map, so check your life. The bots almost never go to the flak, so it's all your, and there's health there too. The maps plays well in any case.

Demo : http://Lily42.free.fr/TGP/Lily/Grinder.zip

Koos Galleon - 25/17 :

Hellish maps. It's designed to be sucky, and it sucks. All the carpentry, doors, lifts, make it hard to maneuver around, the bots love to camp behind doors or portals, the upper deck is bots' territory. If it wasn't sucky enough, it's possible to run the entire map and find no weapon. No wonder most people don't like this map. Anyway, I think the best strategy is to camp in the room above the shield belt. At least, you won't have bots kill you when you grab the shield belt. The bots never grab the damage amplifier, so it's a good idea to use that thing, however, make sure you have a weapon you can use with the amp, and enough health to survive the bots. Leave the keg o' health and redeemer alone, the bots will kill you no matter what if you dare venture on the upper deck. Good luck and be ready to respawn a lot.

Sucky demo : http://Lily42.free.fr/TGP/Lily/koos.zip

Tempest - 25/8 :

Definitively not easy, but the map plays very well. Whore the shield belt and armor as much as possible. Use the boots to get to the damage amplifier or the shield belt (or both). Retreating on this map is not too hard (and there's plenty of health), so don't get killed stupidly.

Demo : http://Lily42.free.fr/TGP/Lily/tempest.zip

Barricade - 25/11 :

The map plays well once you get used to it. All the jump boots are very useful to navigate the map or to reach the redeemer. Talking about the redeemer, the bots don't use it much, so check it often, and kill the bastards with it. Other than that, whore the shield belt and the two armors. Don't venture too much in the bottom area, unless you've got a rocket launcher with enough ammo. If you do, don't forget the second set of armor there.

Demo : http://Lily42.free.fr/TGP/Lily/Barricade.zip

Liandri - 30/20 :

If you can take the shield belt and minigun, kill the bots in the central area from as far away as possible. The damage amplifier might prove worthy, but the bots won't let you take it without fighting first. Timing the shield belt would be the best thing to do in Liandri, or just camping there. Hope you are good at respawning, though, it happens a lot on this tough map. Try to stay under cover in the central area too, it helps.

demo : http://Lily42.free.fr/TGP/Lily/Liandri.zip

Conveyor - 30/13 :

Large maps with health everywhere, all the power ups, and enough weapons and ammo for everyone. Victory should not be too difficult. Had a little fun with the sniper rifle on this one.

Demo : http://Lily42.free.fr/TGP/Lily/Conveyor.zip

Peak :

I like the design of this map, but let's face it, it doesn't play well neither offline nor online. The bots will kill you instantly whenever you cross them. Use the impact hammer when you respawn and try to reach the shield room. The flak can be useful for that matter if you're lucky enough to pick up one. Once you are there, take the shock rifle and ammo, and camp the place until you win. Combo any pixel that shows its nose. If you manage to grab the shock rifle and shield belt at the very beginning of the match, the score at the end should be 30 frags, 0 death.

No boring demo, sorry. Don't insist :)

Phobos - 15/9 :

Spam spam spam. The bots won't give you enough time to play another way. The easiest way is to combo the bots in the central room with the shock rifle from the ripper location. Forget about the power ups, you won't have the time.

Demo : http://Lily42.free.fr/TGP/Lily/Phobos.zip

Morpheus - 15/8 :

At first I thought it would be a mistake to leave the lower areas, but it is not so. Play on top of the towers, and spam rockets, the bots are too dumb to avoid them. Use the minigun/pulse gun otherwise.

Demo http://Lily42.free.fr/TGP/Lily/morpheus.zip

Zeto - 15/8 :

Do the rocket monkey thing and Zeto should be history :) Really not much to say about that map.

(Bad) Demo : http://Lily42.free.fr/TGP/Lily/Zeto.zip

Hyperblast - 15/6 :

The last map. Fortunately, it's 1vs1, and Xan is not very good. Deny him the shield belt and armor, don't let him come close with his rocket launcher that he loves so much, and there's absolutely no reason why you should lose that map.

My first and last attempt (warning, real chunks of suicides included) : http://Lily42.free.fr/TGP/Lily/Hyperblast.zip

Ok, that's it. I won't ever play bots again, you can trust me on that one :D

Awesome! I guess I'll chip in my demos of Grinder (since it's the most exciting) and Pressure, since you don't have it. How do you want to get the files?

I don't mean to get picky, but no where on that demo does it ever say "Godlike" in fact it says "Lightning Botmatch" whereas mine always said "Godlike Tournament In ..."

also, it looks an awful lot like Xan was fooled around with there, those aren't the botpaths he normally takes and his aim is WAY off from what it looks like on my machine.

ok, I finished watching the whole thing now, something is very wrong with that match, for one thing the screen cap you supplied is diff than the match you played. second you deal way too much damage to XAN, at one point you killed him with three single plasma balls, and even after he had the armor, you killed him with a single rocket shot's splash damage...wtf?

also it appears he isn't dealing enough damage to you, at one point he hits you square on with a rocket and you barely took 25 points off your sheild.

I don't doubt your skill lily, just something seems very strange about that last demo (the only one i've watched)

Just noticed I had mispelled the thread, *grin*.

I knew the thread would go wrong at some point, but my, that was fast.

Anyway :

- As was pointed out by NSFY in the other thread, the difficulty level is never recorded with the demos. It came out that a screenshot or a log (nglocalstats) of the match is the only proof there is. That's why I have included screenshots in several archives (however, I had already completed many maps at that point, so most demos don't have screenshots).
see http://forums.beyondunreal.com/showthread.php?threadid=92437

- The last four 'challenges' are called ligthning deathmatchs (phobos, morpheus, zeto, hyperblast). They play at 135% speed I think, hence the 'lightning'. The screenshot must say godlike lightning deathmatch or something, whereas the demo will only display 'lightning deathmatch'. See first point.

- The screenshot of hyperblast match the demo, indeed. I don't know why you think it's wrong.

- Xan's aim is not off. The bots fire slow projectiles so as they cross your exact path if you don't alter your course. If you strafe left and right, it screws them up. Think about it. Let's say you strafe on the left side, the bot fires a rocket even more on your left, where you would take it into the face were you to keep strafing into that direction. Now, strafe left and right, the bots will always fire way off. That's why dodging is not so useful against bots, but strafing that way is. Don't know if i made sense, but that's the idea.

- About the botpaths, I have only ever played the final botmatch (hyperblast) two or three times on 'skilled' level long ago, and once on godlike, so I won't comment.

- As for the damages, don't know what you think is wrong, but well, *I* know there's nothing fishy, since *I* played the matches, so I'll let others comment. That really reminds me of that match for the WCG (Khyron vs XAN, a korean player, not the bot). There was a big controversy going on for days about the damages dealt. It's on cached.net, PineConeBoy and some others must know what I'm talking about ... Fact is, UT doesn't always update the shield and armor % immediately, so don't draw conclusions too quickly.

As for my skills, again, I'm not 1337 or anything, so I don't really care.

About botpaths

The bots almost always take paths that will get them to the weapons/ammo they need or the various pick ups. Take them away, and the bots will take another path. Botpaths are just here to tell how to get from point A to point B, map designers don't tell what paths bots should take as far as I know (never launched UnrealEd, though, so I could be wrong).

I'll upload any demo you want, I have 70MB left, and a complete set should take about 30MB, so I have room. I'd be glad to have a demo of pressure, though, especially since I suck so much in there. Anyway, send me an email to lily42@free.fr (without any demo), and I should reply in a few days (I have to set up the box, and check how much room I have for emails). Then I think I'll have you to send me your demos one at a time to the same box, I'll upload them on the FTP, and I'll send the links back to you. Then, up to you to do whatever you want with them :)

the match with Xan is not a godlike tournament match, it's not even a godlike match, it's a lighting match.

just watch it you'll see what I mean.

All the matches in the Final Challenge are called "Lightning Deathmatch" because the gamespeed is cranked up. As for the other stuff you saw.....I watched the demo BEFORE I ever read your post, and trust me, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. A duel against one measly bot, even if it is perfect Godlike, just isn't that hard. They're stupid.

yeah i realize, i can cream Xan on godlike too, it just seemed a little funny, but maybe it's just because the demo was playing a little slow on my machine, or something like that.

ok, i didn't know it was called lightning match, i don't remember mine saying that, but then again i don't remember ever hitting F1.

sorry if i offended you lily, i really wasn't trying to....forgive me?

LOL, you didn't offend me.....no need to apologize. It just seemed ludicrious in the first place to accuse someone of lying about beating the Godlike bots. Who really cares? Besides, you can watch the rest of Lily's demos to see that she's obviously capable of 0wning the Godlike bots anytime.
