i voted for revolutionary leveldesign... its has something new... after playing it a bit against 15 bots ... i found something... something NEW... it has nothing in common with the original levels... or with those so called "ownage maps"... its a gamefeeling i never had before... guess this map won't leave my hd without my permission...
i hope i can test it in LAN with some friends the next days...
the item placement is also something new...
i hope alexander ][ realeases a new version much better verision... or maybe a second edition of the map...

Oh ok, I saw the last thread and played the map.
and it's a complete bore, I won't bother joining in with David by being sarcastic, I feel it is my right, and my responsibility as a gamer to stand up and say,
Don't bother d/l the map, from what the author is saying to everyone giving him feedback, he is lost in his own illusion of what gameplay is ( damn Id Lackeys, their poisoning the world!) and is obviously kissing his own a$$ too much too realize just how many people are laughing at him behind his back, my last count comes to, just about everyone I know on this board.

I've been working some more on it since september. It's January now. A newer preview is already included in the package. It's a total remake - I made it from scratch. Only just texture alignment took me 2 nights in a row. It's dark for I wanted to experiment on it and make day/night changing all the time. But I'm not sure that will look nice in UT.
In my latest version there's lots of lighting tricks, but it's now slow. I'll have to cancel some of my ideas.
Whatever, I like the demo as it is now, and I think adding stuff to it will make it too heavy.
Best wishes!

DavidM:
Learning the interface took me a lot of time. Converting the map took me about a week of work and that was in September. It was a version 13 on my hard drive that bacame DM-CloudWarDemo. I've done 8 more versions so far but that one Demo is still the best playable version so far. I don't thing that there is much one can add to it. There's a good principle: KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid). That's basically my major point. I don't say that all maps must be simple - NO. But guess why so many people like DM-Deck and CTF-Faces?

Thanks for elaborating on your rather vague comment.
I don't want to bore you with long writing, but I'd like to live in peace with others. Hence I'd like to clarify for myself what exactly did I do wrong, not to repeat the same mistakes again:
-> Well, if you spend 40 hours a week playing this game it looks lik full-time job. What do you do for living?
-> Which of my comments did you find "flame"?
-> Yes, I was rough around the corners at some points, but I did apologize for them. Are you still not satisfied with that? What else should I do?
-> When I'll have family and kids I'm going to behave differently.
-> Do I not have the right to defend my point?
-> I'm a free man and I decide for myself which maps I like and which I don't. And also I don't need any pity from someone and I never asked for any sponsorship. Still I give thanks to those who did supported me here.
-> In your previous comment you said that the fact that I flame people makes my behaviour not of a grown up person:
you dont behave like a grown up person, because you flame people for giving you feedback
If that's how you define the behaviour of a grown up person why do you flame back at me with loud statements about my behavior. Or you don't consider yourself a grown-up at the age of 18 yet?
-> And again, would you please explain which exact of my posts made you say that:

"Beware Greeks bearing Gifts" is more akin to what I said and the implication of WWII only secondary and the fact "Historically" is that the only gifts Germans brought Russia were not friendly so in kind so are their compliments in this case.
As a NaliCity Reviewer I could berate your map till next Christmas, let me just tell you in PLAIN english, your map is "okay" and you and your map has been made the target of some very thick sarcasm. Very European sarcasm. Excuse my American bluntness, YOU SUCK.
I can not spell it out any clearer.
Your cander and politness are to be commended, your mapping skills are, however, lacking. Keep the faith and continue to map for the love of mapping, not your fellow man.

I would have voted but there wasn't a "Big Piece of Poo!" button.
Naw. It wasn't that bad but it wasn't pretty, original, or very playable with even 1/2 of the suggested max player load.
I don't see the big deal with this map.
I did like how I sometimes lived when hitting the bottom, only to meet a waiting assasin, then get geared up and go back through the portal only to get knocked off again. This would be okay if I lived when falling more than 1 out of 15 times.
It's okay, I guess, so I'll just vote for that...:D

Are you people serious? Are these praise reviews really referring to DM-Cloud War? :o
I didn't even vote for there wasn't any field for someone
who disliked the map.
Open the map in U Ed 2.0 ...
This map lacks any kind of complexity whatsoever.
There are only 51 lights and many of those are in the very simple
and boring sky box. In addition there are only 4-5
textures used in the whole map.
I'm no expert mapper but I'd say that this map could easily
be made in one three hour session. The author didn't even take the time to align the weapons and powerups to the floor.
As a result most of the weapons and ammo appear halfway
burried into the floor and the med boxes are floating
in mid air.
Don't get me wrong. I appreciate the effort the author made
to share their map with us, but, it certainly is not a revolutionary
map by any means. True some might like falling to their death
so often but that kind of gameplay hardly makes the map
worth a 10!
I'd rate it a 2.5

Ha-ha-ha!
You made me laugh now! That's the idea of themap: not to fall down! There are so many ways to improve on your skills there! If you fall down all the time you're free to use your teleporter any time. That's a cheap trick and I don't use it myself, so dont start qouting that suggestion everywhere.
As I said before: this map is for hardcore players only.
Just tell me how many lights woud I have to use to satisfy you? Or is that the skybox that concerns you the most? And, does it have to be complex? Are you complex?
How many textures should be used in a good map?
I'm no expert mapper but I'd say that this map could easily

That's why it's called Demo. I wanted to hear response about the gameplay before starting to improve on the visual effect. In fact there is a better textured version already included in the package.

You left out "so often" from your quote from my post.
I just thought it was too easy to be pushed off

.
I'll say this again:
<Don't get me wrong. I appreciate the effort the author made

.
.
OK, I'll be more specific ...
I know that dynamic lighting may have made it run slower...
... I guess the number of lights wasn't the actual issue
but the lack of any lightining effects ...
Highlighting a few critical areas with some well placed
colored spotlights would have added some depth.
And some objects in the sky box to hide the brush seams
would have been nice too.
.
.
Again, sorry if I offended you ... :D

Why wait? If I were you I'd get in some practice for Unreal2 now with UT - you've heard that Unreal2 levels are super high poly with terrain?
well why dont you start making a map with that polycount now, and use terraedit to make the terrain? It could be CloudWars][ - the same great, pure & simple gameplay but with some stunning 40,000 poly eyecandy - I'm talking PERFECT spheres and cylinders with 200+ sides.

O, Great Teacher, may kiss your feet for opening my eyes. I was totally blind, and I can see! How can I thank you for such a miraculous healing?
Now, seriously. Tell me, did you at least download it? I see people here who can't play this map less than an hour. Can you say the same about maps made by you?

lol, the same old crap!
YOUR MAP SUX! Hourences said it already in one of the first points.
I did NOT DL IT! you screenshots show off enough to tell me! My maps are FAR better than yours! I even dont have to compare. And do you know what? You dont have to be a mapper(dont need a map) to critizies other maps. Your hardcore player **** talk doesnt interest anyone. The players have to tell. Play CTF-Niven to expire what is a liked CFT-Hardcore player map. is that map so plain simple and boring as your map? NO! again, rethink your position! I know where I am standing and I am listening to all those people from whom I know they can give valunabel informations(map vise)

Alexander][, I haven't played your map, but why don't you just get over it? I don't know what's sarcasm here and what's not, but still, your map doesn't sound so impressive. Start on a new one. Now when you have some experience, you'd probably make a better one than this.

Actually, all 3 (!) Cloudwars threads (the Demo one, the final map one and this one) are all still there, unlike...certain other legendary threads :hmm:

Weren't those on the old message board? I remember seeing them when looking around there back then, and Hagman only turned up a few, short times on the new board as far as I know...
