View Full Version : How's this "terrain" for a CTF map?

Experimenting with that great tool 3DSMax a bit, here's some shots of what I thought up tonight:
Oh, and a happy new year! :B
Edit: Don't worry about the polycounts, I checked and the max in sight polys are around 300 - 400. Funny, I didn't even notice they were so high... must be that brand new GeForce 3 :D

300 polys is a bit much, make the huge rock thing that separates the bases wider than the whole level, and make the asteroid very, very, very thick

Um, which asteroid do you mean?

/me fears the texture alignment :)
but 400 polys is far too high, specially without any buildings in view. /me would try to aim for closer to 180-200 without buildings or possibly lower depending on how detailed your buildings are going to be.

...interesting...yes, veeery interesting...

Hm, I think I won't manage to finish this map... (time, ideas...) If any of you want this terrain, I'll gladly give it away. It's something I created in 30 minutes with 3DSMax, I don't care about it.

the polycount probably won't be that high when you are on the ground though, from the game. maybe 200-250, which is still too high without the bases:p

looks good, better then face :P but floorplan is too simple, and its too small, underscaled i think for so far i can see on the shot

I just checked, the base parts are a bit more than 4096 units in diameter... Big enough? I think it has about Face's dimensions. And for the floorplan, I was thinking of some kind of catwalk below the rocky bridge... The central spire could maybe somehow make for a new home to this homeless reactor room I built once upon a time:
And the smaller spire could be some kind of Sniper post, or a place to hide a ShieldBelt, DamageAmp, or whatever.
Still, if anyone wants it, tell me.

maybe, to get you a sense for the scale: Here's the tower from above pic on one of the base areas:

Oops, just noticed how confused you'll probably get by this mix-up of SF and Fantasy :D I haven't got a clear idea of it in my head, and I don't have enough time to make one up... But I haven't decided on the theme yet. SF would be cooler, but I prefer maps with a sincere theme. And those asteroids just don't look acceptable :)
