Fire, can some one tell me how to make fire? I've seen different types of fire with various fire textures, but I have no idea how to do it. I tried it using the sheet and some blue fire texture......it looks horrible........

First, don't look at it under software rendering.
Second, create your sheets as a "trasparent window" under Brush, Add Special.
Sheets that are not created with proper attributes loose on rebuild new ones that get edited into them later (just happens, dunno)
You can also use the "Add Volumetric" button that looks like two pieces of crossed glass. Right clicking on the button will pop up the options for modifying it to your tastes.
One last tip, select the texture on the sheet brush and set to "unlit". flames look better that way.

Yeah fire in UT looks so..... unreal! But it seems we just have to wait for Unreal 2, that one should have great looking fire effects.

Indeed, particles look better than sheets :)
I wonder how much of that stuff they showed on udn made it into U2.

looks to me like you're on low details in that pic. naturally the fire-tex won't look that pretty thus. but that's an ugly texture you used there to start with. I'd suggest you take another texture, and try it unlit.

not sure what you mean by "red". real fire doesn't look just "red"; it has all the shades from almost white over yellow, orange to a light red.
depends what funny substances one is burning, but I always thought that red-only fire looks ghey. :/
dunno which tex is in which texture-pack, but I guess there are at least half a dozend decent fire textures in the standard texture-sets alone.
what I meant with "low detail" was your grafix settings. the fire tex is washed out like all the other texes. depending on the rendermode and of course the texture itself this has an effect ranging from just somewhat bad to way out horrible.
beneath (d3d) you prolly see what i mean, and in opengl the effect is even more obvious.

I meant with "low detail" was your grafix settings do my graphic settings have anything to do with the way the map looks when other people play it? or are you just refering to the pics? yea i know what you ment by the "red" fire, i dont want ordinary fire......and this map will have a slight red/purple hue to it *cough*wink*

I was just referring to your pic. your settings have nothing to do with how others see it, but they will probably see your fire a little prettier than what it looks like in your pic.

the fires look a little "lost" on these tree-stumps (?). And that texture for the pillars clashes horribly with the other textures. but of course I don't know the rest of the map--if you got that mix between tek and myst textures throughout the map it prolly is alright.
