I'm not exactly blown away by the screenshots. Some look really crappy (the early ones, done with UT engine) and even those done with the new UW engine I find rather disapointing. :hmm:

Anyway ... here we go:

Yeah, it looks pretty early in the build. Plus, it takes some pretty l337 mapping skills no matter what the Engine, eh? ;)

it does look like crap....

you're being a little harsh on it - the ut engine stuff is garbage but the newer shots look ok. Not great but certainly competent enough

rojazz

aye, the newer shots look much better than the older ones. hopefully the progress will continue

oh...yo akuma :D

akuma, these shots, to be on the UW engine, does NOT look good.
If 4dgames studdied the engine a bit better it would look WAY better. And if they are "learning it" then why are they publishing screenies?
To complain some more:)
The textures aint that hot
The screen with the the fog that, i guess, is SUPPOUSE TO melt into the skybox is badly alligned ie it doesnt all-together melt in.
(on their page, the bottom left one http://www.4dgames.com/products.htm )

Competent isnt good enough
these days it gotta be breathtakeing

I'm detecting a negative vibe here ;)

The bottom left shot does indeed seem to be doing something semi-retarded with the sky, but some of the other shots are purrrdy. And it's all work-in-progress.

I doubt they are learning the engine from scratch since some of the mappers are ex-UnF members. I was very dissappointed by the images. the early builds sucked. I mean current top UT mappers can put out better looking stuff using the Ut engine itself

Drevlin

ex-unf team members, huh?
Well i rest my case ;)

@kuma

Not a huge fan of UNF then drevlin?

One of those mappers is also allegedly working on hypothetical, un-announced game not a million miles away from here :)

Drevlin
20th Oct 2001, 11:44 AM
I wouldnt exactly say I'm the biggest fan around of Unf, no :)

Some levels were cool but the overall gameplay and funfactor was kinda low

Ah cool
Looking forword to when it is announced
just hope the shots (when they are released) look better than atma's :)

Its a surprise to me to know that the game has some experienced mappers working on it. I hope they're seriously able to get their act together to make a nice-looking adventure although the entire blurb for the game's premise seems very hokey if you visit the game's site.
Bob Dole would be happy, I guess.

I only played an old build of UNF last year, the levels were garbage apart from one ocean platform thingy. There was some bad clone of CTF-Kilgore, a seriously ugly outdoor map & the rest of the maps were seemingly made of 128x128x128 cubes. The chaingun wasn't skinned and it all generally smacked of lameness

I suppose it's a lot better now ;)

Drevlin
20th Oct 2001, 04:13 PM
Well i kinda dont care :)
there are better things to play than UNF even if it does look better.

Guys, the Unreal Warfare engine is still being tweaked. Just because ATMA looks crappy doen't mean the engine is crappy. Some companies just don't explore the possiblities of an engine...they just want to make a game and make it fast.

What we are saying is that Unreal 2 is looking a hell of a lot better than Atma. As do Deus Ex 2 and Theif 3.

I know a few things about 4dgames that have made me unlike them but i'm not the trashing kinda guy so i wont speak of it...

You just did. ;)

I think nobody here said that it's the engine that looks bad. We are all aware that it depends what you make out of it. And that Atma has "potential for improvement". ;)

Drevlin

"potential for improvement".

I second that :)
Now lets drop the subject is getting quite old

Post a new interesting topic and we'll gladly drop this one. ;)

What's so crappy about that game? You guys are spoiled.

(I'm not saying it looks good, but it's NOT crappy :S)

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with the screenshots (and do you really believe the fog in skybox bug will also be in the final version?), what's your problem guys?

GringoLoco
11th Nov 2001, 07:20 PM
The pics are so-so .. but as the other guys said, it can be made better.. and as Prophetus said, some game developers like to use the FULL potential of a game, other not.

@kuma

it's certainly comparable to the 'incredible' B&W (well kinda)

compared to, say, Doom3 or DOA3it looks a little lacking... but so does everything :)

the latest Litech aint to hot
I downloaded a tech demo and even in the demo the engine lagged heavly
Sure, it may look real good but you need a monsta puter to play the gaddam games

Well the game ran fine on mine either ur comp suks or ur on CRACK..

YEAH! EAT THAT!

Drevlin
13th Nov 2001, 02:51 AM
I got an AMDk7 600mhz 458mb ram and a geforce 2
Im not saying its top of the line but i think it should be able atelast play the game on the lowest detail with a very low resp - it didnt even do that.

Noone lives for ever is good though as it only uses litech 2.0 so its playable :)
AVP2 uses litech 2.6 and it runs rather slow - gone is the slickness and fastness of Avp1
What im saying is that the newer versions of the engine is slow for us with avrage puter
Not all of us has a dad that can buy you a new puter every year ;)

And As for the techdemo i downloaded well.. I tried it mutiple times and its a moooooooooooovvvvvvviiiiiieeeeee for god sakes - it doesnt take alot of cpu power to watch a movie

DOOM 3 and Quake 4 will RULE over any other games before them.. they will rock heavily :) i hope they do....

Drevlin
14th Nov 2001, 03:25 AM
what info do you have on quake 4 and doom 3 exactly that make you belive this?

Orochi
14th Nov 2001, 04:04 AM
forget quake 4 and doom 3

unreal 5 and unreal tournament championship 3 will rule over any game before them

of course they arent out yet, but then neither is q4 or d3, but since u5 and utc3 will be out after q4 and d3, they've gotta be better

@kuma
14th Nov 2001, 11:26 AM
doom3 is apparently, uh rather good. Of course I've not seen it running but I know a chap who has

Look at me, I sound like a typical 14 year old BBS leet-wannabe "I know TEH GAYME DEVELOPEAR! I reeds fatbabyes"

anyway, it's supposed to be quite attractive in it's own special way.

Is Q4 using the Doom3 or the TA engine? If it's the latter I suspect Raven will churn out a slightly less good looking, slightly less fun to play version of TA with more polys :)

It's true, there isn't known a lot about Doom3, but I still have a feeling deep inside that it'll rock :)
