I've actually been posting there a little (for shame, for shame!). There's really NOBODY there except for BuF's looking in and GSI staff. And I have to say, Dakota seems suspisciously happy about this whole situation. They honestly don't seem to give a sh¡t

Let me ask you this: did it seem to you like they cared before too? :D

I popped over for a while and said hello ...

I'm sure there's a smiley to express what I felt as I nosed about ...

But it certainly isn't one of the regular ones.

Clayeth has got our address in his sig over there. Good on him.

It'd feel so different if they were making it easy for Old PuFfers to find us. It was touch and go for Phoenix.

I don't think TinMan has posted here yet, but I got message through to him and a reply from. So he knows. Then again, I seem to remember him being active on mIRC ...

Oh, BTW, Have we got a new mIRC adress ... my link is still to #enterthegame ... I'm sure I'm out of date.

It's still at irc.enterthegame.com and the channel now is #beyondunreal (there's another pick-up game related channel at #pickupbuf if you're interested in just playing the game with someone)

no, but I just assumed they thought we were bluffing about moving. And I want to add one more group of people posting there. People who we have banned are now posting on FP. I think that's halarious. So far I've already seen Flare, Deathbliss, and one other person, but I can't remember their name now, that was banned from PuF. That's not going to help their community at all.

I am really interested to see what goes on over there though, so I'm going to be hanging out there for a while longer, and posting periodically. Plus people will see my sig and hopefully we can get some more members to come to BuF this way

-The force is strong in that one

I also tried everything I could to get them to post a link to us there. They did agree to put a link to an explanation of what happened up there (which is pretty neutral), but they still refuse to put a link in that explanation. It just says that we moved it to our own site.

I feel sorry for them. They do seem to be trying to make a go of it, not just throw up a site and walk away. I think it does bother them that so many people left.

I don't. Dakota is a shifty bastard who evades direct questions, says one thing and does another, and acts like everyone's happy when he and GSI are the only ones. Watching his posts there and here, i gradually lost respect for him.

well sure, they miss people. but i don't think it's out of good will. imagine how many hits per day they stand to lose.

There's only one person I've noticed from GSI that I'm okay with - and that would be shaithis. Dakota, Sluggo, and Cobbo just don't seem to get it.

Why do they think the people here "stole" the forums?...

I'm wondering if they (G§I) don't think that eventually things will get back to normal at PuF. They might be thinking that there are allready a few BuFers (not me) who post there, suposedly to tell people about BuF, and chances are these d00ds will get stuck in PuF, helping them to get going, answering n00bs for them and just enjoing being "vets" at PuF...:hmm:

I'm there and I think Stryker said he might pop in and out. I honestly do not see anything wrong with helping people who post problems there. If an old reg pops by and wonders where everyone left, I'd gladly post the URL for BU...otherwise why get people just looking for some help involved in this if you can just help them out? I've seen more than a couple of occasions where a simple question was answered with "Oh come to BU where it's so much better" line. It irks me. Wrong place for posting this? Yeah probably? Do I appreciate what Pete and the rest did for us any less? Not a chance in hell.

I have to admit i lost respect about Dakota.

Not because he banned me when i prove him wrong about the legality of copying the old data to the new forums, but because of today's "State of the Planet" letter. It is neutral, yes, but it also denies our very existence. We, the 26,000+ users that used to go to PU and PuF, don't even exist in his mind :(
He only mentioned that QAPete and Clambert and Sparky have "moved on to other websites". Not a single word about the whole community.

I bet they are banking on getting a huge influx of peeps when U2 comes out, which is probably true. After all, they are a Planetxxx site.

How can BuF do the same?

True.

Asking Epic, DE, or whoever is doing the various Unreal spin-offs for links on their websites is a first step.

Sam_The_Man

Agreed. Whether it will make any difference, I don't know. They'll put links to both forums, and it will look like this:

"Official Unreal 2 forums"
"Planet Unreal forums"
"Beyond Unreal forums"

Of that, the majority will go to the official forums and PuF. For a start, PuF will be above BuF in the list. Also, Planet Unreal will have the Planet name. Beyond Unreal has nothing. They certainly won't put "Planet Unreal forums here, but they suck, go to Beyond Unreal instead."

We could try asking them to put "Planet Unreal forums are intellectually compromised" though :D

But the bottom line is that BuF won't get many new faces. We can't advertise BuF at PuF like we are doing now, because after the move, it would be spammage, and I think the Adolfs, I mean admins, would be fully justified in deleting those posts. We'd complain if we got adverts from other Unreal forums, after all.

I hate to say it, but as good as the current community is, I think we'll see very few new people here. Eventually, as people leave and none come in, BuF is going to die out :(

i have to give a big DISAGREE! ummm epic knows where its fanbase/customers are.... all we have to do is let them know we would like a shot at being the primary (and most intellectual) f0's... we DO NOT need a planet name in front of our community to be what we are and will continue to be... epic sees... DE sees... we see.. now stop being so damn pessimistic.. i bet 10 to 1 the GSI mods over at the PU f0's cannot answer half the things we have :) notice my spammage in the tech support of the PU f0's ;) i dont think they have one mod response :)

I think Epic/DE simply care about having a big community around the game. A big community will help foster interest in the game -> more games sold.

I get the impression that GSI won't have exactly made themselve's very popular with Epic in the way they've treated the community. The same thing happened with GSI and id software, id have very little to do with GSI now, I think Epic could do the same.

They have a vested interest in helping the community. If PU/GSI activly supresses the community, and BU becomes the new home of the old (and powerful) PU community, who are Epic/DE going to get involved with?

I'll give you a clue, it hasn't got a "P" in the name...

We will still get new people showing up. The word will spread that there is a much larger and better resource over here...

If they bank on an influx of new people when the new games are released then sure they will get new people... but they won't be as familiar with UT and it's workings as we are.
As long as we keep our knowledge base and expand on it this site will always be better.

We just need to make BU a better place than PU ever was. The first step is getting hosted sites onboard. The more resources we can offer the more people will check us out. I don't remember how I found PU but I stuck around because of the resources... which GSI seems to be abusing atm...

Me too Sapphire, me too.
Yet I am not even thinking of going back to them either. So there, I'm guilty too.

We happen to have a very good relationship with Epic.... and they aren't particularly fond of GSI as you mentioned. (There's a humorous pic on this forum that makes that point) ;)

Don't get too nervous about anything. Remember... we are just scratching the surface here. The plans for BU (if any) have yet to be made public.

You trusted us about the Forum (thank you)... trust us now. :)

/ME quotes Pineconeboy

Shifty Basturd, you bet!!! He's a corporate H0, so everything - EVERYTHING he posts is ass kissy GSI stuff. I asked him one question, one bloody question and he side stepped me like a greased monkey on heat and directed me to read the fine print of GSI Terms and Conditions.

Yeah, nice one Dakota - RTFM (Read The F00kin Manual).

Saph, posting there and wishing them well is nice and stuff, a good ambassador for BuF ;)

But I think they need a 'Dear Dr CHRYSt' job done on them to accurately reflect the "You $hit headz" feelings most of us have.
