I think the Marines were an inbetween AI for Unreal/UT. They are much more intelligent but they do pretty stupid things.
ex: they will shoot through anything if you are in their line of sight, including other marines.

For fun, load up an outdoor level, turn noclip on, then spawn a pack of Skaarj Troopers/Scouts and a squad of space marines. Fly around a bit and get them to start shooting each other, then duck into a wall or the floor, and watch 'em duke it out.
