Get Close to Textures

Since I kinda killed my Stealth-card I tried using my inbuild 3D-card. My good old "Intel 810 Graphics Chip Set" using direct 3D.
But then this occurred...:).
You would expect high poly and node counts to kill your frame-rates, but what I noticed was that my framerates really dropped in close, low polycount areas areas where you get really close to any textures causing a terrible lag. Keeping my view in the open, on a larger area would keep my framerates rollin', even with high poly-node counts.....Anyone now why.....???:)
