View Full Version : THe real difference between Q3A and UT

Q3A is entirely about action and making things 'fair'. If you have armor and health over 100, they tick back down. You get either the bare minimum # of shots in a gun or 1 shot in a gun, even if you take it off a guy who's been loading up for 10 minutes.
The guns respawn in no time.

UT is a mixture of action and endurance. You only lose health or armour above 100 if you get shot. If some guy runs around loadin up his gun and you kill him, you get whatever he had in his gun. The guns take longer to respawn. If you want a gun, you'll have to live long enough to grab it. It's not 'fair', but why would you want fair? You'll NEVER know how good you really are if everything is fair.

These are two slightly different styles of game.

That death certificate is a forgery. Look at the title, and you'll see that the name "North Carolina" has letters in a differnt font in the same word.

I just wonder how many guns in Q3 are actually that different from the doom 2 series...hmmm how long ago was that?? Try about 8 years ago I see it says same old unreal..hahahahah Q3 will be the same old Q2 but instead of 16 colors you now get 256. Boring!!!!!

Good comments Hekcorps, clear explanantion of some of the fundamental game differences. One is not necessarily better than the other - but if ya like one game and not the other - go play it! Maybe barcode is already tired of the same ol Quake? heh-heh

Anyone ever notice the web page down at the bottom? If this moron thinks Quake is da sh*t, how come he has to get hosted at planetshogo?

Also, if he's such a great q3 fan, how come he didn't read the official announcement that it comes out officially on MONDAY the 5th?

Sheesh... finally, if Q3 is so awsome, how come he's killing time uploading a stupid picture to every single message board? That's gotta take some time. Why aren't you doing your homework?

Well I haven't compared the game that much, Ive only played q3a tests and demo some weeks but I must say that it is so booring compared to UT.
But I feel that you are right about q3a being more fair and demands more skill of the player however this doesnt affect ut cause the one with most skill always win over the chicken**** campers.
About the weapons respawning I havent checked that, but I always play at weapons stay cause I feel that is more fare and most hosted UT servers play with weapons stay as well.

Lets just set the record straight ey, you were goin on about weapons, now err Unreal tournament has what about 14 right and yet q3 barely manages to have 10, and then of course you have the 'exelent' bot play with q3 where the bots would rather follow a path node than shoot you. oh yeah back to the weapons, they dont even have secondary fire, havnt ID learnt their lesson, and what about the pathetic idea of no grappling hook in their CTF mode, what do they think, they expect us to walk in ctf mode? No-one walks around for CTF they use grapples and translocators but not walking

hope this dosent start a war or anything .. but i actually play bot UT and Q3 and like em ..and they both have good and bad .. if you dont like both dont bitch about the other! .. but anyway .. i thought the death cirt thing was pretty funny /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif .. anyway Q3 came out today .. and i must say it's loads better than the demo that came out *i was really pissed! the demo sucked!* anywayeyah eyah eyah Q3 only has 10 weapons ..* but i like em alot! * except the grenade launcher .. it's not quite up to par with the Q2 GL /~unreal/ubb/html/frown.gif
as for UT's weapons eyah theres a bunch of them .. and eyah they have 2 firing modes ..*well almost all of them * the only complaint i have in those is that they need new sounds .. full versoin Q3 has some great levels .. i like the UT levels .. but i think they could be better .. i'm looking foreward to seeing some user made levels .. on the ctf no grapple translocator note .. i have yet to play ctf on Q3 but i assume it will be cool .. UT's ctf rawks and the translocator is cool but you cant use it when holdinhg the flag .. so how will that make it different from Q3's absence of any travel device?if you think about it for a second .. why cant you translocate when you have the flag ..? anyone? well the reason is .. you could drop the TL at your flag and just jump back .. or TL wherever with the flag .. the reason you cant use it is to make it fair when you are carriying that big *** brush of a flag! if any listeners out there are old Q1/Q2 ctfers you know how annopying grapple monkeys were right? anyway before this post turns into a book *eep it has already!!*if you dont like Q3? .. DONT BUY IT and if you dont buy it .. you cant play it so DONT BITCH ABOUT IT! and as for sob's that cross forums just to start a flame war by doing crap like that damn .gif*even if it was kinda funny, tee hee!*
