I have a home lan between two win98 machines with ethernet cards and a crossover cable. At the time, each machine had its own Ip and both had identical submasks. I could ping each machine fine, and even my internet sharing, through wingate, worked fine, but I couldn't see the UT server game in the lan window. When I opened the location of the server, I got a "rejected by server" message.
I defined a default gateway and DNS for each machine on the tcp/ip bound to the ethernet card (all 4 addresses the same number) and it works like a charm! To be sure, I changed it back and UT didn't work. Seems unreal tournament needs this extra step (at least on win98 boxes), to connect!
Have Fun!
