I am under the assumption that UScript will not be changing drastically or the way mods are made won't be changing much before Unreal2's release so, I'm beginning work on a mod for Unreal 2 now. By doing so the mod should be ready for release by the time Unreal 2 is released.
The mod is called Starship Troopers:Mobile Infantry. I have spent the last three months developing this idea and finally I decided that there is no way in hell that UT handle you having 16+ bots to command and versing 100+ enemies. So I figure if unreal 2 is going to be so awesome with super high quality stuff, imagine how many things you could cram in if it were UT or Unreal 1 quality. Most preliminary concept art is finished and I am currently generating sounds and writing music.
I can't go into much detail here so you'll have to wait untill I finish the site in about a week. The main features will be improved bot control(Like Quake3's bot control bred with UT's). You will not always be in command and you may have to take orders. There will be limb severance like in Aliens vs. Predator. You will bleed and will be able to bandage yourself and others. Pain will also be an issue causing you to suffer increased recoil shakiness when aiming, etc., etc. There will be several new bugs added and several other bugs that we will not tell you about and you'll have to encounter on your own. There will also be a fairly diverse line of weaponry available and it will be classed based but you'll be able to carry one weapon which doesn't pretain to your class.

Right now I am in need of people to help with:
Coding
Modeling/Animating
Texture creation
Skin Creation
2 SFX Artists(You'll have to be VERY VERY GOOD)
1 other Music Artist(You'll have to be VERY VERY GOOD)

If you are interested or would just like some more info please email me at bestbassdrummer@yahoo.com

There is a Starship troopers mod in development for Serious sam already and i think that it will do it justice because of the large ammount of enemies that can be shown at the same time.

well, we'll all have to wait and see, the uscript could change a lot i think, so we might stumble upon a lot of surprises, the amout of enemy's is also uncertain, it has quality no doubt, but can it generate enough enemy's serious sam like?

Should be fun :)

I can do music, by the way, but I'm a bit tied up with Eden's Wrath (another mod in development for Unreal2), so I can't really help you at the moment, sorry. Although this mod sounds as if it could be pretty cool indeed.

We just don't know what suprises the new UScript might have in store..

acidfaucet that mod wont work. unreal 2 is going to be on a completely new game engine. you wont be able to convert the textures or anything for that matter over to unreal 2. The new unrealed 2.5 is going to be much different as well.

hate to say it but your going to have to wait until unreal 2 comes out before you start making mods.

and a mod based on starship troopers? yes the movie and book was awsome but cant you come up with something a little more origonal?

well, i wouldn't say complete new engine, they highly modified it, and added lots o features, i also think that the textures will be of different higher sizes, and higher resolution

That sounds like A great mod! I am trying to do one of my own that involves some bitchin weapons! But um.. what kind of sound generating programs where you talking about? I need something to make sound for the weapons.

Thanks

do all the prep work you can do
and try things out in UT.

U2 textures will NOT be in UTX format, but simply in a folder where you drop the texture.

they are using a proprietery animation system and skeletal system.

Just think everyone should know this. It's UnrealEd 2.6, not 2.5.

And I doubt this will be a great mod for Unreal 2. It simply won't be able to handle large amounts of enemies on screen without an extremely powerful gaming rig.
If it does turn out to be possible, hell go for it :)

I am finding out there are still people out there with 233mhz systems.
Legend said they would make a version of U2 for lower end systems and the Voodoo series card.

I love the movie, but

Alot of mods based on movies get "foxed" by the big movie companies and their work is lost.

Just see what happened to Bid for Power last week: http://www.bidforpower.com/

As many of you know Funimation owns the copyrights to Dragonball Z in the USA and has sold the exclusive rights to publish video games to Infogrames. On December 1st, 2000, the Bid For Power team received a cease and desist order from Funimation.
However, they seemed receptive to the notion of allowing Bid For Power to be released so long as certain conditions were met. We were put in touch with Infogrames who asked us, among other things, to recreate Bid For Power on Wild Tangent, a java-based engine, which would then be posted on the Dragonball Z website for people to play. This engine is incapable of running something as detailed as Bid For Power and we would have had to start work from scratch. Most of the team rejected the idea and talks went downhill from there. Without contact with Infogrames or Funimation the progress of Bid For Power slowed down even though we were sitting on a finished product and had been for some time.

We began dealing with Funimation directly in April when they asked us to send videos of gameplay to them so that they could have TOEI Japan review it. We sent the videos and heard nothing until we emailed them in July asking that we be allowed to release in August, since no objections had be made from TOEI Japan that we knew of. We were then sent another Cease and Desist order by way of Funimation.

We will be making an announcement later this week concerning the release of Bid For Power

it is rather sad, all these big company's complaining, first starwars, now this
even though it only brings more publicity to the theme, as long as they don't get any money, they don't care, as i understand
