Standard disclaimer about not knowing whether this has been suggested before.

Summary:
Since we will have leaning to either side (working in 2.86), why not add the ability to lean forward? E.g., to lean over a railing and look down.

This could be very useful in situations where the enemy is right below you, and currently you have to jump up on a railing or something to shoot down, which is a little unrealistic. Instead you could just lean forward over the railing to shoot down.

If anyone has played the game Thief, it has this feature. Of course it would mean adding more animations, which is probably the INF team's least favorit activity. :)

Well I don't really don't see an immediate need for this, as it is a mildly rare occurance to have someone directly beneath you. But it could be useful in the future.

kinda like the foyer building with the tv in sicily.
As it is, I lean to the side(while perpendicular to the edge) to see down like that.
Not like I lean online of course. :)

I already turn and lean to the side to look down over ledges. It's almost as automatic for me as straifing around corners.

Okay I feel stupid for not thinking to do that (although I don't lean online so it wouldn't have occured to me  )

Still, if you do that you can only immediately see the side you're leaning on, you'd have to turn and lean to the other side for the other way. I guess this is okay for most situations, but leaning forward would give a greater area of view initially. I don't know if that justifies another animation though. :)

You hear footsteps down below you someplace- it would be nice to lean slightly forward and take a little peek, rather than have to hop up on the railing or abutment and get your head blown off for your troubles...

you don't see forward.
I personally don't see how someone could fire a gun leaning over like that (like over a balcony, without resting on a railing) and not lose his balance.

That's one of my personal gripes about the graphics. When you look down the entire player's body sorta tilts downward. It's like he's got a metal rod up his spine or somethin'. Is there any way to only get the torso portion to move only when looking down? I think it would look at lot better.

In response to Yurch's post:
I'm not claiming to have ever fired a gun leaning forward, but maybe if you put one leg forward, and used the back leg as a counter balance (still on the ground though) you might be able to pull it off. I'm guessing the heavier the weapon the more difficult though. I dunno. Is there a RL procedure for doing this? Who would know? Stormcaller? :)

But I generally agree, the necessary animations put this, like so many other ideas, on the "back burner" at best.

I'd think it to be easier, after all the gun itself compensates for the recoil when pointing down. Proper firing stance however is not really possible.

This is something I really have no clue about. I really never even thought about it. There migt be an official method to do it, but I don't know what it is. I don't even know how to research it. However, IMO, your idea does make perfect sense.
