i want to create custom textures in adobe photoshop and my question is how do you get the textures to tile properly so that the edges link up nicely? are you with me? at the moment you can see the edges of the texture 'tiles'. It would be also be useful for webpage backgrounds and all sorts of stuff, i know there must be a way.

Hi,
I used to map on half-life and used a program called wally to check the tiling, also i used it for making (bad) textures. I have yet to find out how to assemble my own texture package for UT, but now is as good a time as any to ask, :).
Wally uses the .bmp and iles it so you can blend out the seams, quite a nify little tool. I hope it works for UT too, cause it rocked

Use the Offset Filter in Photoshop...
Set it to Wrap Around and give an XY value for the offset. (I usually use the half-width/half-height of my texture)
The seam should be visible if it's not tiling. Now you can retouch it a bit at the edge to make the seam disappear. (eg Rubber Stamp tool)

...and then:
Select all, Edit->Define pattern.
Open a new file, double size of your texture, Edit->Fill->Pattern.
Doesn't make it tile any better but makes it much easier to see how it will tile.
