I saw both of em like a month ago, absolutely incredible. If MP only weren't a 3rd person shooter. :(

BTW, if you wanna see the engine in action go dl 3dmark 2k1. Run the demo and make sure you set the demo to high detail if your card can handle it. Extremely impressive. :)

Yeah I know about the lobby shootout that they liscensed to MadOnion. VERY cool. 3rd person won't be so bad... I mean think about Oni. Great game. Should have had multiplayer but noooo... in fact neither will MP. NO NETCODE!!!! ARGH!!! ANyway. I've been following MP since late 97 when someone (we won't say who ;)) mailed me some cool looking sketches.

No, see 3rd person is unplayable for me. Godamn was Oni's controls fux0red! That and 3rd person play made me delete that asap! I won't buy MP until I play a demo, and I'm 99.9% sure I'll delete the demo 5 mins after playing, I don't play 3rd person games. :hmm:

A lot of people are like that. I used to be. Its kinda like that whole thing where as a kid you absolutely HATED tomatoe soup or something... and 5 years later it's your fav (happened that way to me anyway.). But I can see why they chose the 3rd person perspective (I am guessing you can switch between 1st and 3rd in-game). I mean, it wouldn't be as cool to do those dives, rolls and matrix-esque moves if you couldn't see yourself from an out-of-body perspective (duh, 3rd person :p) when you did them. Thats what made oni soooo incredibly cool. I wish they made a gauntlet stage so I could put on god mode and mow through an endless supply of enemies... :)

Heh, it's funny you said that. I despise tomatoes, and tomatoe soup for that matter, but I've always hated tomatoe sauce all of my life and then one day I loved it. But I still have to strain it to get all the crap out of SMOOTH ( :mad: ) marinara sauce. :hmm:

I hate all things mac, and all things mac-related. They suck. Royally. I got taken cuz I bought a powerbook once, thinking it would be a decent starter laptop. The damned thing was the worst load of circuitry I had ever had the intense displeasure of using. My 8088 was more powerful. Not to mention, theres more software available for an 8088! Why would ANYONE want a mac? ARG! The ONLY thing I can see is that at least you aren't a slave to Microsoft, but then again, your stuck with what is basically Windows with no option for things like Linux/Unix . . . s**t, I'm just gonna invent a modem that'll attach to my TI-86 so I can still post on this forum :) My Toshiba ain't so bad, but Weird Al Yankovic had it right about Windows, and I ain't ever gonna use a Mac for ANYTHING except 1) a paperweight 2) a large, cumbersome shotput 3)target practice 4)Make-shift watermelon (ever watch Gallagher?) 5)a urinal.

If Max Payne is 3rd person, then they'd better get it 100% perfect.
For melee-combat 3rd person can work (Rune was good, Oni had unfriendly controls), but as soon as you need to shoot stuff it is going to be very difficult to get it done right.
IMHO automatic targeting is probably the only workable way to do it, because aiming will be needlessly difficult from a 3rd person perspective...

btw) the 3Dmark benchmark has used the 'Max Payne'-engine since it first appeared.
They've used it as a way to earn money for MP-development I think.
Only in the latest version (3dmark2001) have they used some of the artwork that was developed for MP.

Didn't anyone notice the way ppl fly when they're shot in the demo & benchmark ???
