Fileplanet is a f*cking sh*T! im tired of it! cant resume downloads,, slow donwloads trhough iexplore, the downloads stop and gotte start from 0%!!!!11 what the HELLL!!!!!!!! and now i cant get the UT patches and the inf files. som1 knows were toi get it? tried lots of places, but are linked to FP.

I feel the same way, Ramon. I cetainly hope that whoevers in charge of FilePlanet recieves 6 .454 bullets to the chest. I don't think I'll ever download anything from FilePlanet ever again...

Have you tried www.unrealcenter.com? I've managed to download some stuff off there a couple days back. It might work for you, if you haven't already tried it.

I used to get 200KB/sec with FilePlanet now I get 80-100KB/sec.

Yeah.. same here. I hate FP. But what can they do? They dont bring in enough money through ads because we are all too lazy to click them... or we just dont want to. And this means they have a hard time affording new pipelines and servers... that coupled with the fact that few people bother to host thier own files, and dump them on FP makes everyone hate FP. Everyone relies on them. I for one get DL speeds ranging from 1kb per sec all the way to my usual of around 400kb per sec with FP. Erratic? Yes. Reliable? No. But do they serve the community most of the time? Yes, definetly.

Im just so tired of all their bull.

Now they have that new system where you have to have an account, oddly, i have only encountered it some places, and not others, but damn i hate it.
I made my damn account, but now it wont let me login, everytime i click on the f<b></b>ucking button that says "Click here to login, or create an account", it takes me back the the site i was just at, so i can press that thing for an eternity, but i cant login and get the damn file :mad:

Allso, since everything is on FP, we europeeans are screwed, the one euro server they have in milano never works, i have not been able to download anything from that server ever, its cronically down, i think its a dud link just so we dont start a riot or something.

I find that fileplanet has been very spurratic lately. Today I downloaded a patch (20 megs) and it went at 10.8k/sec. Which may not be bad for dialup. But I get around the same speeds as Ballistophobia does.

My max has been 2603k/s compared to 10.8? Its awful. But then... 2 days ago, I downloading a demo at somewhere around 120K/sec. I really don't know what to tell you about fileplanet other than bandwith. Try to grab stuff later at night when there isn't so many people around.

If Fileplanet is beinga bitch, try either www.avault.com or www.3dfiles.com for patches and the like. Or, try dling from Fileplanet with FlashGet, best damn download accelerator I've used.

Btw, the .454 Casull kicks mucho ass :)

actually the last couple of days that i've been going to file planet, I've got'n some pretty decent service.

It used to be that i'd never get a download to even start, or if it did, it'd be in the 0.1kps range. (way too slow even for a dialup like myself)

But ever since they started useing a que system where you essentially get in line, i've always had reliable resumable, and fast downloads. (for me fast is about 6-7kps)

I'd much prefer to wait the 1-5 mins in line and then get a 6kps download of a 50MB file (about 2.5 hrs) then fighting at the "feeding troff" for a measly 1.5kps ( about 9.5 hours) as it was before hand.. and that's assuming your speed stayed consistant.

i have no problem with the wait in line feature. my problem is that if i use the xfer server, the one with the wait in line thing with a download accelerator program, i get 1-3 kb/s when i used to get 16-25 kb/sec. and if i use any of the mirrors with the download accelerator prog, the server give me a 30 kb file, not the one i wish to download. and if i use the mirrors with iexplore, it runs fine but it stop and cant resume. conclussion: im screwed, cant download nothing amd im really pissed.

I don't know if it's because I'm in America (don't know where you guys are, but most of you seem Euro to me) or what, but I just download ALL of the files for Inf (excluding the UT436 patch, already had that) from fileplanet about 3 weeks ago, and I had NOT problems with it at all. I use GetRight http://www.getright.com as my download manager/resumer, and the ONE time i got disconnected (I actually was completely disconnected from the net, not just the FTP server), I resumerd with no problems. Average bandwidth? 5.4 kbps. worst bandwidth was on the 2.85 map pack, and that was a run of 4.8 kbps for about an hour. Who knows what's up, maybe it's where I am, or the fact that I only perform my downloads after 1 am, or maybe I'm just lucky (God knows it would be the only GOOD luck I have). I just thought I would point that out, because I really actually like fileplanet. I get kinda irritated waiting in line, but that only takes about five minutes, and I've found that getright seems to have no problems resuming the download anyhow. Just my two hundredths of a dollar.

yeah, they need to do a little more work on the qualifications for the que.

A friend of mine runs a Fserver on IRC, and wrote a very complex system to determin a "fair" download manager.

Basically he broke the file catagories into sizes, and made different ques for each..

it's alot like having those express lines in food stores.. so if all you want to get is a bottled water, you dont have to wait 40 mins in line..

I think file planet should do something similar.. Have seperate lines for filesizes.

something like 1-200k = instant download.
210-500k = line 1
500 - 1MB = line 2
1.1MB - 5MB = line 3
ect ect.

that way you dont end up waiting 25 mins for 600k files.

the only problem with such a system is that because in reality there's only one "line" is that the larger the file you want, the lower your priority is in relation to those wanting smaller ones... so in addition to waiting for the other big files to move, you also have to wait for the smaller under ya. So it breaks down to "the larger the file, the larger the wait".

I dont mind wating in the line if im going to download a massive file, it will probably be worth the wait, but when try to download a 1,23 MB map, and have to wait 35 min's + just to get started on it, my patience is all dryed out, even with the most horrid slow speeds i could land it in 15-18 mins, and less if i get a 2,0 KB/sec speed.

I have had to wait 63 mins to be allowed to download a 432 KB file, christ, that doesent even take a minute to chuck down on my usual low speeds, needless to say, i got pissed and droped out of line, still havent gotten that file.

Allso, i would think that the whole point of this would be to give people better speeds, im not going any faster than i did on FP before this was set up, maybe only by 0,20 KB/sec faster, but that does not justify the inhuman long wait for the damn file to even start.

Their "wait in line" system should be limited to files that are 10+ megs, nothing more.

Christ, if there where just an alternative.......
And fix that f<b></b>ucking Milano server!

I use FP and it´s not slow - THAT slow... I use cable modem, 256k;
files come in 10-20kbps... ANd I`M IN BRAZIL!!! Change your connexion. See if u´re using digital phone lines... and so on...

thats the problem, i use it always at offpeak times. im spanish, so when i usually grab my files all americans ar sleeping, havng s3x or another night activity. and, if i look at hte brandwith meter theres not usually lots o people. but the download is still slow

tio! el primer español que me encuentro aqui!!! pues en dos años usando el UT NUNCA he conseguido entrar en el server de milano, siempre me echa.
