Unreal II and Championship may confuse gamers

[color=00D0FF]Now I assume that Unreal II and Unreal Championship will both be released around the same time. If so, won't this confuse a lot of gamers out there? It just doesn't seem like a good business decision to have two games using the "Unreal" name to be released almost at the same time! It'll be interesting how this plays out in 2002.[/color]

Some people were confused by the difference between Unreal and Unreal Tournament, but that's a minority of "just getting started" computer users. I would agree with icest0rm if UC and U2 were going to be positioned near each other in stores. But because one is for X-Box and the other is for PC that won't happen.

Pretty much. It's just that the Unreal engine has been extended to encorperate X-Box support. This could mean that any new Unreal engine game could be easily converted to the X-Box, probably.

Unreal Championship will be an X-box exclusive game, while Unreal 2 will be for PC first, and consoles second. I don't think there should be too much confusion.

Then again, when UT came out I saw it listed as "Unreal: Tournament Edition" at some online game stores, so who knows what could happen

i doubt much confusion will happen, since they will have total other concepts, same with unreal warfare, and the story is totally different

For the time being its (UC) xbox only. That game is being made just for console gaming, with tweaks to make it more comfortable for the console gamer (including weapons tweaks), so it would be lame if it came to PC as is. Besides I hear U2 will have a multiplayer mode that is ATLEAST as good as UT. I would like to know if it has a specialised weapon set, cos some types of weps are better for single player gaming than multiplayer deathmatching.

Also, they can't and won't release (because that would make it UT for the PS2 all over again) UC until Microsoft sorts out how they are going to run their online service and actually get it running. The release is set to coincide with the launch of Xbox's online service.

UC is a game being made by Digital Extremes (Epic's long-time partner) for the X-box. At this time it is only for the X-box. It is UnrealTournament, with the current Unreal Engine build, completely updated weapons, maps, player models.

So, yes, it could seem that it was UT2, but it is really just an updated console release. The follow-up to UT will be coming from Epic.

Unreal 2 is the followup to Unreal but it will have simmilar multiplay features as Unreal Tournament.

The true followup to Unreal Tournament is Dark Sector also called Unreal Warfare (real name is Dark Sector).

Unreal Championship is an Xbox ONLY game based on the Unreal 2 engine. It will be similar to Unreal Tournament but it is not the followup to Unreal Tournament since it's Xbox exclusive.

There...i hope iv'e cleared up the confusion.

Dark Sector is an MMO persistent universe game which uses the Warfare engine and is being developed by Digital Extremes. UW is a separate game from Epic Megagames.

ok from what i understand isnt DS more like EQ, U2 being well U2, UW still being shrouded in mystery, and UC being UT on steriods for the Xbox, with UT2 never being announced

This is correct, except that Unreal Warfare is the next multiplayer FPS by Epic, so you can consider it UT2 (if you want).

From now on im gonna SHUT UP and ignore any "Unreal Warfare", "UT2" etc threads becuase they only lead to more confusion. If you don't belive me about Dark Sector goto digital extremes site and read for yourself there it clearly says that it is the followup to Unreal Tournament.

That site states that Dark Sector is the next multiplayer action game by Digital Extremes. Dark Sector is not based on the Unreal universe. By saying that it is the "follow-up", they mean that it is Digital Extremes next action game after UT.
